Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak DLC is coming out in June for both Switch and PC

Capcom has announced that the Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak DLC expansion will release on 30th June for both Nintendo Switch and PC versions of the game. That’s far from the only thing they announced, with a bunch more details for the expansions shown in a 20-minute stream – which you can watch here – and new monsters revealed.

The new trailer gives us a quick look at the story, the new hub, and some of the beasts you’ll be battling against. Having saved Kamura Village at the end of Rise, you’re invited to a distant kingdom that is struggling to meet a similar threat. You’ll head to the port of Elgado Outpost, which will become the new hub for your adventuring, with its Laboratory seeking help in researching abnormal monster activity.

You’ll ally with the Knights of the Royal Order to help face the Three Lords, a trio of powerful new creatures. This includes includes the newly unveiled Garangolm, the chilling Fanged Wyvern Lunagaron, and the Elder Dragon Malzeno. They’re far from the only new enemies, as other monster variants like Blood Orange Bishaten and Astalos will emerge, and you’ll be chasing after accomplishments in the new Master Rank quest difficulty.

A new environment includes the Citadel, which features snowy peaks, lush forests, and an abandoned fortress that has been overrun by the monsters it was meant to defend against.

Monster Hunter Rise Sunbreak Elgado Outpost

Originally releasing for Nintendo Switch in March 2021 and then getting a PC port in January 2022, Sunbreak is a major expansion to a widely praised entry in the long-running Monster Hunter series. In our Monster Hunter Rise review, we scored this latest entry in the series a whopping 9/10, thanks to new gameplay tweaks and innovations like the Wirebug and Palamutes:

“Monster Hunter Rise is an incredible game. While it may not feel quite as ground-breaking for the series as World did, it boasts a stronger and distinctly Japanese identity, and the changes and streamlined gameplay simply focus on the franchise’s true stars – the monsters. Rise is easily one of the best games for the Nintendo Switch, and one of the finest Monster Hunters ever.”
