NASCAR Odds and Betting: Championship 4

The NASCAR Cup Series only has one race remaining in 2022 – the Championship 4, set for Phoenix Raceway on Sunday afternoon. NBC will carry the race on television, with the radio call on the Motor Racing Network and SiriusXM. Christopher Bell pulled off the must-win, edging pole winner Kyle Larson by 0.869 seconds. With that win, he vaulted into the Championship 4, the four drivers in the field who can still win the title. This was his third win of 2022 and his second in a must-win. He won the Bank of America ROVAL 400 on October 9 to keep from being eliminated in the playoffs. Ross Chastain also pulled of an amazing finish; entering the last lap in 10th, he stapled his car to the outside wall going into Turn 3, opened the throttle and flew around the fence, passing Denny Hamlin and knocking him out of the top four. The other two drivers who are still alive for the title are Chase Eliott and Joey Logano. Chase Elliott posted the fasted pit stop time from entry to exit (42.4 seconds) this season. A fast final pit stop propelled Kyle Larson to victory in this race last year; two years ago, Brad Keselowski saw his chance at a title vanish because of slow pits.

Joey Logano had four straight races at Phoenix between 2019 and 2021 when he had at least 28 hog points for fast laps and led laps. He should be right there at the finish; with this odds list, eh almost has a little value.

Christopher Bell loves short, flat tracks, given his talent level and his speedy car.

Ross Chastain used a tactic at Martinsville that is akin to cutting a corner. The other drivers in the sport will police this enough to keep him from using a similar tactic to get the win on Sunday.

Ryan Blaney is another driver who prospers on short, flat tracks. He has yet to win at Phoenix, but he led 143 laps here in the spring 2022 race.

Chase Briscoe faced some static when he made it into the Round of 8, but his last two months have been terrific. Also, he won the spring race here.

Denny Hamlin hasn’t really cared about titles since the playoffs emerged to take away the honor of winning a regular season. However, getting knocked out by Chastain’s maneuver had to have irritated him, so expect him to enter Phoenix with a large chip on his shoulder.

Kyle Busch runs his last race with JGR this weekend, as the sun starts to go down on a massive career. Since his crew chief walked in 2020, he has won just three races.

William Byron had a dozen hog points here in the spring race. In the seven Phoenix races before that, he had 10 hog points combined. Is that momentum? It might be worth a value wager.

Kevin Harvick used to be automatic at Phoenix, but not so much anymore. In 2022, though, the short, flat tracks have been kind to him.
