NCAA College Football 2022 Preview: Betting odds to win the College Football Playoff National Championship

The NCAA College Football 2022 season is upon us. The Georgia Bulldogs are coming off winning last season’s College Football Playoff National Championship and are one of the top contenders according to bookies to win it this season.

The outright odds are in for this season’s College Football Playoff National Championship winner and plenty of usual suspects are in the top-five odds.

The 2022 NCAAF season technically started Saturday, August 27 with “Week Zero.” However, the majority of FBS teams will kick off the 2022 NCAAF season on the weekend of Saturday, September 3.

Week Zero did see some big games, but things won’t really get underway until Week 1. Some of the important games for Week 1 include:

  • Oregon vs. Georgia
  • Cincinnati at Arkansas
  • Utah at Florida
  • Notre Dame at Ohio State

This season will be the ninth of the College Football Playoffs. The schedule for the playoffs and major bowl games is:

  • Orange Bowl: Friday, Dec. 30, 2022
  • Sugar Bowl: Saturday, Dec. 31, 2022
  • Fiesta Bowl (CFP semifinals): Saturday, Dec. 31, 2022
  • Peach Bowl (CFP semifinals): Saturday, Dec. 31, 2022
  • Cotton Bowl: Monday, Jan. 2, 2023
  • Rose Bowl: Monday, Jan. 2, 2023
  • CFP National Championship Game: Monday, Jan. 9, 2023 (in Los Angeles, California, SoFi Stadium)

Here are the latest odds according to Bet365 for the top 12 teams in the NCAAF College Football National Championship outright winner odds.

  • Alabama +175
  • Georgia +350
  • Ohio State +350
  • Clemson +1200
  • Oklahoma +2500
  • Texas A&M +2500
  • USC +2800
  • Michigan +2800
  • Notre Dame +4000
  • Wisconsin +4000
  • Oregon +4000
  • Utah +4000
  1. Alabama
  2. Ohio State
  3. Georgia
  4. Clemson
  5. Notre Dame
  6. Texas A&M
  7. Utah
  8. Michigan
  9. Oklahoma
  10. Baylor

The consensus amongst college football experts is that Notre Dame is one of the most overrated, overhyped teams going into the new season.

The Fightin’ Irish are ranked No. 5 in the nation ahead of the start of the season. Notre Dame will be tested right from the start with a Week 1 game versus No. 2 Ohio State on Sunday, September 5.

Although Notre Dame should be decent this season, there is a belief that the team is just better than the rest for now. If Notre Dame is humbled by Ohio State, it could be a difficult season.

Texas A&M is sixth in the rankings for Week 1. The Aggies are another team believed to be overhyped. Consistency has been an issue the Texas A&M in recent seasons and there is a possibility the issues are still there.

The National Champion should once again be Alabama. The Crimson Tide has won three of the eight previous National Championships. There is nothing that leads me to believe Alabama won’t be in the title game this season.

In 2021, Alabama was beaten 33-18 by fellow SEC team Georgia. Nick Sabin should lead the Crimson Tide back to the title game, but this time, lift the trophy.

Alabama has appeared in six of the eight previous National Championship games. The consistency at Alabama is unreal. At odds of +175, you better back the Tide before those odds decrease.
