Next Battlefield Will Have a Single Player Campaign, Job Ad Suggests

Battlefield 2042 has clearly not gone the way EA had hoped it would, but the company will certainly be hoping that the series will make a strong recovery in the future. Reports have suggested time and again that EA – which recently shifted to a multi-studio development model for the series – already has the next mainline game in the series in development. One of the studios involved with the series now is a new team set up in Seattle last year, led by former Halo co-creator Marcus Lehto- and it seems that team is working on a campaign for the next Battlefield game.

That’s right- while Battlefield 2042 ended up doing away with a single player campaign entirely, it looks like the next game in the series won’t be doing the same. EA recently published a job ad for the position of Design Director at the Seattle Battlefield studio, and that listing, interestingly enough, makes multiple mentions of work being underway on a single player campaign.

“You will manage the design team and design vision of a new Battlefield campaign,” the listing reads. “Your job is to orchestrate the mission design, narrative, game mechanics, and systems to create the highest quality experience possible. You foster relationships with creative, engineering, and production to create an inclusive design team.

“Your job is to embrace the core tenets of the Battlefield franchise and make sure they are woven through all layers of a masterfully designed single player campaign. You will build the studio’s design team and culture and build an amazing campaign from concept through release. You are also responsible for leading iteration of the product design based on feedback from peers, company partners, and team members while holding to the core vision.”

Previous reports have indicated that the next Battlefield game is targeting a 2024 launch. On the multiplayer side of things, the game will allegedly revert a lot of the changes made in Battlefield 2042, and could also have hero shooter elements.
