Overwatch 2 Account Merge Queue Reset: How to Fix

One of the main issues plaguing the launch of Overwatch 2 since day one has been the account merge queue resetting.

The long-awaited, free-to-play sequel, Overwatch 2, launched on Oct. 4. As expected, huge amounts of fans were eager to jump in from day one and experience the new content and major changes. Sadly, many players were hit with an array of issues. From long queues to server disconnects, many were lucky if they even managed to squeeze in a game at all early on.

With the introduction of cross-progression in Overwatch 2, Blizzard intended to give all players the one-time opportunity to merge their accounts across various platforms and have unified Hero Gallery collections moving forward. However, not only has this process caused some, if not all of players’ content to be inaccessible, but some still aren’t able to merge their accounts at all. Here’s a breakdown of how to fix the account merge reset issue in Overwatch 2.

As touched on earlier, a problem that many seem to be having with Overwatch 2 is that on the main menu, an option will appear on their screens saying “Account Merge In Queue.”

Once players press it, it’ll say that their accounts are being prepared for migration and that they are currently in the migration queue. At this point, one of two issues may arise.

If your place in the queue seemingly resets, players are reporting that that the counter resets, but you do indeed stay in the same spot. As such, we’d recommend to just stick it out for as long as you’re willing to give it. After all, all of this will be fixed in due time as Blizzard has mentioned that “no player data has been wiped or lost.”

The other case is that once players do wait for their turn and get to the end of the queue, the game then tells them to restart their games to begin the migration, which, upon doing so, accomplishes nothing and thus begins a cycle of confusion.

Ultimately, it’s important to understand that these issues are stemming from Blizzard’s side of things as the servers simply are not performing properly.

On Monday evening, Blizzard did announce that it “made some adjustments to help process more players through the account merge queue,” so hopefully this will all be resolved soon for those still affected.
