Patrick Baldwin 2022 NBA Draft Profile

The 2022 NBA Draft will be an important event for teams to build for their future. Here is the Patrick Baldwin 2022 NBA Draft Profile.

Patrick Baldwin Background

Position: Forward

Size: 6-foot-10, 230 pounds

Class: Freshman

School: Milwaukee

2021-22 stats: 12.1 points, 5.8 rebounds, 1.5 assists, 0.8 steals, 0.8 blocks per game, 34.4% FG, 26.6% 3FG, 74.3% FT

Even though he was a great high school recruit, Baldwin is a small-school prospect. He is hoping that a limited sample size will still help him in the 2022 NBA Draft.

As a five-star high school prospect, Baldwin had plenty of offers, but chose to play for his dad at Milwaukee. Baldwin fought through injuries as a freshman and was only able to play in 11 games. He averaged 12.1 points and 5.8 rebounds per game. The Panthers struggled with and without Baldwin in the lineup, as they finished the season at 10-22.

Following a season that did not go as well as they hoped, Baldwin declared for the 2022 NBA Draft. He is currently projected to be a late first-round or early second-round pick.

Patrick Baldwin Strengths

Baldwin has the ability to score off of the dribble. He consistently showed that he could hit pull-up 3-pointers after creating space with his dribble, mostly on stepbacks. In the mid-range, he did similar things and used his height to shoot over smaller defenders. Creating his own shot will be valuable in the NBA, if he can hit shots at a high rate.

At the rim, Baldwin finishes at a high rate. He can get to the basket well for a player of his size and can finish with layups or dunks. Milwaukee was able to post him up on smaller players, where he was able to finish over them with post moves. His shooting percentage of 77.8% on shots within four feet of the basket shows his finishing ability.

His ball-handling skills are also impressive for a player of his size on the wing. He showed that he can bring the ball up the court in transition, or even set up a halfcourt offense if needed. Baldwin also was able to create his own shot with stepbacks, even when smaller players were guarding him. The ability to handle the ball sets him apart from other players his size.

Patrick Baldwin Weaknesses

He really needs to improve as a shooter at the next level. Baldwin shot just 34.4 percent from the floor and 26.6 percent from 3-point range in his 11 games at Milwaukee. He showed he could hit shots off the dribble,  but needs to be more reliable off the catch. Hitting shots and stretching the floor will make him a more valuable player.

Baldwin doesn’t have a great first step or explosiveness. He shows good body control for a player of his size, but isn’t someone who will blow right by defenders with his dribble. Defensively, he can let opponents dribble around him and then is totally reliant on his length to help him make plays.

Prospects are usually picked because of their traits, but plenty of Baldwin’s stats are alarming. At a school like Milwaukee, Baldwin likely should’ve been able to score more. Another alarming thing was that he had 2.1 turnovers per game and just 1.5 assists per game. He also didn’t block shots against smaller competition. It seemed like the jump to college was a big step for him in many areas of his game. The step to the NBA will take a lot of adjusting.

Projected Draft Range: Late First Round Pick-Early First Round Pick
