Pokémon Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl day one patch detailed, comes out a week early

The day one update for Pokémon Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl has been detailed and will release tomorrow, a week before the game’s release date. The update will add more animated scenes and movies to the game, as well as enabling some local and online features such as the Grand Underground and Union Room.

Speaking of the Union Room, which is where you’ll be able to interact with other players to Battle, Trade and Mix Records, this will initially be restricted to two players with a future update increasing the number of players able to share the space.

Nintendo has also released a new trailer for the games.

The patch is quite surprisingly early, coming shortly after the games were leaked earlier this month, retail copies making their way into the hands of some people and Twitch streamers already streaming the remakes. Those streamers will now have the updated game with all the new features. Nintendo might look to crack down on these streams over the coming days, but the cat’s really out of the bag at this point.

Anyway, here’s the version 1.1.0 patch notes.

Pokémon Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl Ver. 1.1.0 Patch Notes

  • Addition of Grand Underground, Super Contest Show, Union Room and Mystery Gift communication features
You will be able to enjoy local and online communication features of the Grand Underground, Super Contest Show and Union Room. Additionally, you will also become able to receive gifts using the Mystery Gift feature.
  • Addition of content after entering the Hall of Fame
Some content that becomes playable after entering the Hall of Fame, including Ramanas Park, will be added in the update.
    • Note: even if you have already entered the Hall of Fame before downloading the update, downloading it will allow you to play the additional content.
  • Addition of some in-game cutscenes and animations
Some in-game cutscenes and animations will be added in the update, including the game’s ending cutscene and the title screen animation that is played when opening the software.
    • Note: you can view the title screen animation by starting up the software with existing save data and with the update installed. Even if you have already entered the Hall of Fame before the update is installed, you can view the ending cutscene by entering the Hall of Fame again afterwards.
  • Other adjustments and corrections were made to improve the gameplay experience.
  • Regarding a planned update after release
On the release date for the software, up to two players will be able to interact in local and online play in the Union Room, and you will be able to select the “Battle”, “Trade” and “Mix Records” functions. In an update that will be made available after the software releases, the maximum number of players will be increased, and the “Greeting” and “Capsule Decoration” functions will become available.
Additionally, trading using the GWS in Jubilife City and the use of the Colosseum feature inside Pokémon Centers will also be added in a post-release update.

Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Pokémon Shining Pearl are remakes of the classic Nintendo DS Pokémon Diamond and Pokémon Pearl from 2006. The emphasis here has been to faithfully recreate the original game experience, updating the original sprite-based graphics to have a top down view rendered in 3D, before battles transform things with a battle view akin to the recent Pokémon Let’s Go games.

For many Pokémon fans, the return to Sinnoh will be more than welcome, but for others, it’s just a way to tide them over until the release of Pokémon Legends: Arceus. That game transforms the experience with a more modern 3D action RPG-style of camera, building on the open world elements that debuted in Pokémon Sword & Shield as Game Freak delve into the history of the Pokémon universe, the Sinnoh region and how the legendary Pokémon Arceus shaped the region.
