Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown Aims to Adapt the Series’ Legacy for a New Generation on PS5, PS4

Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown received an initially negative response when it was unveiled, predominantly for aesthetic reasons, and not being another 3D game, instead a 2D Metroidvania-style platformer. The developers don’t seem bothered, which we find strangely reassuring, along with some rock-solid new gameplay. Whether you like the look of the new Prince or not, it looks like a lot of fun, seeking to recapture the series’ tough-as-nails platforming roots.

Along with all the effortless acrobatic action you might expect, combat looks slick as heck too. IGN sat down with Ubisoft Montpellier world director Christophe Pic to discuss how this new vision stays faithful to what came before, who said: “For us, it was natural to make the choice for the game. And we also wanted to come back to the original Prince of Persia because it also fits with the kind of structure we have and with the kind of controls and gameplay.”

This is playing to Ubisoft Montpellier’s strengths, too, with the studio best known for its excellent Rayman series of platformers for the better part of three decades. What do you think of Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown? Let us know in the comments section below.
