Report: An Assassin’s Creed Valhalla expansion pack is being turned in to a full game

Bloomberg are reporting that an unannounced expansion pack for Assassin’s Creed Valhalla is being spun off by Ubisoft and turned in to a full game “to help fill out its thin release schedule.”

The expansion is said to feature Basim rather than Eivor and will not be a huge open world game, instead it will focus on the classic stealth gameplay found in the earlier Assassin’s Creed titles. The game, currently codenamed Rift, is set to launch either later this year or in 2023.

Yay! I get my own game!

Ubisoft have padded out their release schedules with smaller Assassin’s Creed games in the past with titles such as Assassin’s Creed Chronicles and Assassin’s Creed III: Liberation. The gap in the schedule suggest that Assassin’s Creed Infinity won’t be released for a good few years.

Infinity was announced last year and will be and expansive and long-standing live service platform that will feature multiple settings and expand over the months and years following its debut. While each setting might have a different look and feel, they will be connected.

While we wait for the new games there may be another way to get your fix of assassinations as Ubisoft have turned to Netflix as a partner for a new live-action Assassin’s Creed series.

It’s actually multiple projects, though, with the main live-action show to be joined by an animated and an anime adaptation. They’re looking for some showrunners to manage these, but Ubisoft Film & Television’s Jason Altman and Danielle Kreinik will be executive producers.

“For more than 10 years, millions of fans around the world have helped shape the Assassin’s Creed brand into an iconic franchise,” said Jason Altman, Head of Ubisoft Film & Television – Los Angeles. “We’re thrilled to create an Assassin’s Creed series with Netflix, and we look forward to developing the next saga in the Assassin’s Creed universe.”
