Return to Monkey Island Receives New Gameplay Video

Return to Monkey Island has received a new brief gameplay video featuring the ever-dashing Guybrush Threepwood.

Return to Monkey Island doesn’t have an official release date just yet, but we know it will be arriving later this year. Ahead of the game’s release, various members of the development team have been sharing in-game snippets of Return to Monkey Island in action (via Eurogamer).

Dave Grossman, a game developer best known for his time at Telltale Games and LucasArts, joined Ron Gilbert to develop Return to Monkey Island. The latest gameplay video came from Grossman.

DUALSHOCKERS VIDEO OF THE DAY

His tweet reads, “New surveillance video for Monkey Island Monday! Strange man seen striding purposefully on Melee dock, ignoring the pelicans and bar as though he had somewhere to be, some devilish puzzle to solve, [Gilbert] have you seen this?”

The strange man is none other than Threepwood himself, looking better than ever. The brief clip shows the protagonist running along a dock area, which shows a docked ship and a glimpse of the pub.

Gilbert himself shared a video last week, the video shared displayed the title of the first part of the game “A Friendly Place” accompanied by a bloody cleaver lodged in a wooden table.

It’s refreshing to see the developer pair still have enthusiasm for Return to Monkey Island following Gilbert’s announcement last month that he had lost the “joy of sharing” because of negative comments from Monkey Island fans.

Gilbert’s statement quickly roused many in the gaming industry who voiced their support for the developer while admonishing toxic fans. There is currently an ongoing effort by game developers to call out toxic fan behaviours following Gilbert’s message and the resulting supportive messages.

Return to Monkey Island will be released for PC and Nintendo Switch, with other console releases possibly coming later.
