Wilson’s emergence over his career helped Michigan win a National Championship. Now, he is in the 2024 NFL Draft.

As a four-star prospect in the class of 2020, Wilson signed with Michigan out of Hawaii. He played early in his career, finishing with nine receptions for 122 yards and one touchdown. His role increased in 2021, as Wilson totaled 25 catches for 420 yards and three touchdowns. He helped the Wolverines go 12-2 that season. In 2022, Wilson hauled in 25 passes for 376 yards and four touchdowns. The Wolverines once again had a good season, winning 13 games. For the 2023 season, Wilson caught 48 passes for 789 yards and 12 touchdowns. His play led Michigan to a National Championship Game victory.

Following the National Championship Game, Wilson declared for the 2024 NFL Draft. He is currently projected to be a second to fourth-round pick.

Roman Wilson Strengths

Wilson is a good athlete for the wide receiver position. He has good acceleration and agility, which helps him start plays well and do well throughout a rep. At the NFL Combine, he ran a 4.39 40-yard dash, and that speed shows up on tape.

He can attack the deep parts of the field well. His speed lets him get separated vertically. He tracks the ball well in the air and is able to come down with the ball. Wilson can keep defenses honest with his ability to stretch the field.

With the ball in his hands, Wilson can also create big plays. Once he catches the ball he sees the field clearly and runs to open space. He can make defenders miss in the open field to pick up extra yardage. He was used as a returner a bit at Michigan and the ability he has with the ball in his hands is a major reason why.

Roman Wilson Weaknesses

Wilson is small for the receiver position by NFL standards. He stands 5-foot-11 and 185 pounds, which might resign him to just being a slot receiver. Wilson’s arms also measure in at under 31 inches, giving him a limited catch radius.

He can do a few things to improve his route running. First, he can change speeds better to help create separation. At times it feels like he runs his routes at one speed. He can also do a better job of finding the soft spot against zone coverage to help get open more often.

There are problems he has against press coverage. He doesn’t have the strength to get by physical press coverage. Wilson will need to add more releases to his game to help beat press at the line of scrimmage and create early separation on his routes.
