San Antonio Spurs Offseason Shooting Guard Targets

San Antonio Spurs Offseason Shooting Guard Targets

The San Antonio Spurs are fresh off of winning the NBA Draft Lottery. Although Devin Vassell has locked up the starting shooting guard position, the Spurs should still look to add some of these offseason shooting guard targets.

Austin Reaves

Austin Reaves grew into a major part of the Lakers last season. He is a great shooter and is good at drawing fouls. Reaves averaged 13 points, 3 rebounds and 3.4 assists last season. He shot 52.9% from the field and 39.8% from 3-point range.

Reaves enters free agency as a restricted free agent. The Lakers are going to do everything that they can to keep him, but reaves is going to get a healthy payday. The Spurs have enough cap space to be able to offer him enough that may make the Lakers back off.

Reaves would improve San Antonio’s three-point shooting and he could start at point guard if they fail to sign or draft one.

Seth Curry

Seth Curry is a knockdown three-point shooter and excels at scoring off the dribble. Curry averaged 9.2 points, 1.6 rebounds and 1.6 assists last season for the Nets. He shot 46.3% from the field and 40.5% from 3.

Curry is likely to find a new home as the Nets try to get younger after trading away Kyrie Irving and Kevin Durant last season. Curry would help the Spurs three-point shooting and would give them a reliable shooter off the bench.

Jaylen Brown

Coming off of a disappointing game 7 in which the Celtics lost to the Heat, Jaylen Brown enters the offseason with his future unknown. Brown could sign a max contract with Boston this offseason, but that is only if the Celtics see him as a part of their future.

Brown has been in trade rumors the last few years including those that would have sent Kevin Durant to Boston. Of course Brown is still in Boston but he could be moved this offseason.

He is coming off of a year where he averaged 26.6 points, 6.9 rebounds and 3.5 assists.

The Spurs should look to trade for Brown as he is still young and would give them another superstar to pair with projected first pick Victor Wembanyama. A trade would more than likely have to involve Keldon Johnson and other players plus multiple first round picks. It would be worth it to advance the rebuild.

Gradey Dick

If the Spurs trade up in the draft, they could look at Kansas guard Gradey Dick.

Dick averaged 14.1 points and 5.1 rebounds while shooting 40.3% from 3.

Dick would bring in a young prospect that is a great shooter and above average defender. He is 6 foot 8, so he could be used as a guard or forward.

He is projected as a lottery pick.

Ausar Thompson

Twin brother of Amen Thompson, Ausar is projected as a top 10 pick in the upcoming NBA Draft.

Thompson averaged 16.3 points, 7.1 rebounds and 6.1 assists last season with Overtime Elite. He also averaged 2.4 steals and 1.1 blocks, proving that he is a good defender that would help San Antonio.

Of course the Spurs would have to trade up to get him, but he could play both guard positions.

The Spurs should look to add at least one of these guys as it would help them advance their rebuild.
