Shield Maiden (Marcia)

Shield Maiden is the latest addition to the Lords Mobile lineup. She is a P2P hero with IGG’s classic cutesy insipid design and looks. But one thing is sure, that Shield Maiden is a looker.

But as a F2P hero, Shield Maiden’s Battle Skills will make you want to scream. And not in a good way. IGG truly failed this hero. Is she really as bad as she seems? She’s worse. So, before you put any time (or money) into her, find out why she’s just not worth it.

Who Is Shield Maiden?

Shield Maiden’s real name is Marcia. Her backstory is one of the longest from IGG. The developers must have been sober when coming up with this one. Unfortunately, it feels a bit incomplete. 

The story goes that Marcia shares the power to control sand with her twin sister, llya. She struggled to help her sister master her powers while she was a natural. One day, sand bandits attacked their home, and she was overpowered. That’s until llya came to her rescue, summoning a massive sandstorm. Worried that her sister will eventually lose control of her powers, she follows her on an adventure.

The end. That’s a long way of saying that Shield Maiden is a permanent babysitter.

Shield Maiden Score

Okay, I admit that Marcia looks good. But her value is only skin deep. Her battle skills are disappointing. And her Hero Skills are only slightly less so, but that’s only in the Colosseum. But who really needs 10% boosts when you can easily get this through artifacts?

As a late-game addition, this P2P hero could have been better. So, if you were planning on using her for any monster lineups or as a rallying leader, I’m going to have to stomp on your dreams. It’s not happening – at least if you actually want to win. 

I’d rate Shield Maiden 7.5/10 for her appearance but a dismal 3.5/10 for her functionality. 

Specifications

This section will help you see why 3.5/10 was a generous rating for this “all looks no might” hero.

 Here’s a list of her Battle Skills:

• Stalwart Shield: This tactical skill helps Marcia to deal up to 200% Squad ATK as damage to enemy troops.
• Familiar Train: This is a passive skill that helps soldiers train for battle. It speeds up their training by up to 20%.
• Infantry DEF Blessing: This is Shield Maiden’s second passive skill. It helps her improve her Infantry DEF by up to 10%.
• Infantry ATK Blessing: This passive skill increases Infantry ATK by up to 10%.

These Battle Skills are subpar at best. Even her Infantry ATK blessing doesn’t match up to most of the P2P infantry heroes. It’s like the devs just threw her a bone—and not a juicy bone at that.

Let’s see if we can retrieve some of her honor by analyzing her Hero Skills:

• Earth Shaker: Shield Maiden calls on the Sand Spirit with her shield and deals damage to all enemies in a medium area. It inflicts the enemy with Vulnerable for eight seconds.
• Quick Attack: This is an active skill where she catches the enemy unawares and attacks with a deadly strike from behind the target.
• Spear Assault: Shield Maiden deals damage up to five times to all enemies in a cone. It has a mid-range reach and is another active skill. 
• Spear Throw: This is also an active skill that inflicts Bleed for three seconds.

Unlike her Battle Skills, Shield Maiden boasts some decent Hero Skills that can be quite useful for the Colosseum. Her ultimate skill, the Earth Shaker, and her secondary active skill can deal damage to multiple enemies at once, which is a much-welcome skill in every battle.

How to Unlock the Shield Maiden

Shield Maiden is a P2P hero, so you’ll need to dish out some cash for her. And it won’t be cheap.

First, you’ll need to spend $4.99 to get 10 Shield Maiden medals to unlock her at the White/Common grade. Once you unlock her, you have two choices: you can go fast and pricey or slow and, well, less pricey. If you can’t wait, you’ll part with $1,375 of your mom’s cold hard cash to upgrade her right away. 

Alternatively, you can go the slow route and use your allowance and only spend $165 at $5 per pack. For those who can’t do the math, that’s 10 medals per $5 pack purchased 33 times.

I don’t even know why we’re discussing this because this hero just isn’t worth it. But, you decide. I don’t care.

Shield Maiden and the Colosseum

As I said earlier, the Colosseum is one of the few places where Marcia has a chance to shine. Although the Infantry DEF Blessing is quite low, it can help in defense formation, while her Infantry ATK can deal a bit of damage. It’s crucial that you team her up with the right heroes if you choose to use her in the Colosseum. Stunners and Intelligent heroes can make a good lineup with Marcia. 

Rallying With Shield Maiden

Let me say it plainly: don’t Rally with her. Her Battle Skills are dismal, and almost all of them are passive. Her INF ATK and DEF boosts are unbelievably minuscule. Familiar Trainer could make her a viable choice, but there are still a lot of heroes with superior skills that can serve as Infantry Commanders.

Monster Hunting With Shield Maiden

Marcia can be a decent choice for Monster Hunting. This is because of her Earth Shaker skill which can weaken the enemies’ defense. Her Quick Attack is also essential in Monster Hunting. But she can’t stun, and even though she has the Infantry ATK Blessing, it can’t do much against monsters with high magic defense. If you still choose to go ahead with her, make sure she’s in a physical lineup and that your team has an Intelligence hero and healer for support. She has no Life Leech.

• Shield Maiden joined Lords Mobile in September 2022.
• F2P Alternatives: Demon Slayer and Oath Keeper are greater Infantry heroes than Marcia and are suitable in most defense lineups.
