Super Mario RPG Jinx Boss Guide

Super Mario RPG Jinx Boss Guide

In Super Mario RPG, there are many bosses that you can face during your adventure, although not all of them are necessary to complete the game. This is the case, for example, of the Super Mario RPG Jinx boss. In fact, it is not a mandatory boss that you will have to face in order to reach the end credits, also because it is not a hostile character but will only try to test your skills. Furthermore, defeating him is necessary to obtain the Jinx Belt, one of the best accessories that are present in the game. In this article, therefore, we will explain how to get the better of him.

How to beat the Super Mario RPG Jinx boss

The first thing to know about this battle is that it is divided into three different battles, so be prepared to spend a lot of time in this battle. Fortunately, however, Jinx will not be a particularly difficult boss to defeat, although you will have to take a few things into consideration. Also, be aware that the first of the three encounters is not actually with Jinx but with one of his students. In any case, below, we explain everything in detail.

Jagger

Once you complete the Belome Temple dungeon, you will have the option to go to Monstro Town. As soon as you enter the dojo located in this area of the map, you will meet Jagger, a former Bowser guard. To be able to fight Jinx in person, therefore, the first step is to defeat Jagger; otherwise, you will not be able to continue in this boss fight. Fortunately, Jagger is not a difficult opponent to face, so you shouldn’t have any particular problems.

Although he has a decent health bar, Jagger is very vulnerable to magical attacks, so our advice is to focus on the latter. As a result, the best choices to face Jagger are Mallow, Geno, and Peach. As for the attacks themselves, Jagger doesn’t have a vast arsenal and, in fact, will mostly make use of a single move, which, to be honest, isn’t even that powerful. As a result, with minimal effort, you will be able to defeat Jagger and be ready to meet Jinx.

Master Jinx

It’s finally time to face Jinx. Since this is a stronger opponent than the previous one, our advice is to face this battle when you are around level 18–20, so as not to be too much at a disadvantage compared to your opponent. As for the characters to use, we recommend you focus on Mario, Geno, and Peach in order to have a balance regarding physical and magical attacks and the possibility of healing.

Phase 1

As often happens in all games of the genre, the battle against Jinx is also divided into different phases. The first phase of the fight is certainly the easiest and the boss has a health bar that is not as large as one would expect. Furthermore, his attacks are very weak and will not be able to inflict much damage on you; in fact, in some cases, they will not inflict any at all. The strategy to follow in this first phase is very simple: attack continuously and you will have to finish this first phase very quickly, almost certainly without even having the need to heal your characters.

Phase 2

The second phase of the battle will be a little more complex than the previous one, but it is not yet a complex boss fight that requires a particular strategy to be completed. In fact, it is very likely that you will be able to complete this second phase on the first try, especially if you follow our tips. In this regard, we would like to point out that Jinx’s health bar will be slightly larger, and his statistics will be increased. Additionally, Jinx will have two new attacks in her arsenal that can deal double damage or cause instant death, although, to be fair, both attacks can be avoided.

Phase 3

The third phase of the battle is without a doubt the most difficult to face and the one that could create some more difficulties for you, since Jinx will show his true form. His health bar will increase again, as will his stats. Furthermore, a move will become part of his arsenal that will be able to quadruple the damage suffered. Consequently, in this phase, it is very likely that you will have to make use of Peach to heal the other characters, so keep this thing under close control and revive it with Mario in case the need arises. With a little more attention and strategy, you will be able to defeat Jinx once and for all.

Post-game rematch

Once you have defeated Smithy and you have seen the credits, you will have the opportunity to enter the post-game mode, in which you can complete all the activities that you have not completed or take part in new challenges that have become available. Among these new challenges is a fourth encounter with Jinx. Consequently, what you will have to do is head back to Monstro Town and enter the dojo to start the real final battle against Jinx.

Since this is a fairly difficult fight, we recommend that you only face it when you are at least level 25; otherwise, the fight would become unnecessarily difficult. As for the characters to use, although Bowser is often not the best choice to make, in this case, thanks to his defense statistics, you could opt for him as one of the characters in your team. Alternatively, you can continue using Geno. The choice is up to you.

As for the fight itself, Jinx will actually be much more powerful than in the third fight. His health bar will be quadrupled and his stats will be much higher, which will make him a truly formidable opponent. If you are fast enough, you will have the chance to block some of his attacks, but you will be able to do this with a little practice. Obviously, don’t expect to defeat Jinx on the first try, as that is a very difficult thing to do.

Another thing to know is that Jinx will reduce your action gauge to zero, so it will be useless to use a strategy where you try to fill your meter and use a triple move as your first move. Consequently, the right strategy to follow is to try to have the right timing and juggle blocks and strikes well. Also, keep in mind that some moves are able to fill the meter faster, but if you miss, there will be worse consequences, so our advice is to rely on the moves you know well.

However, once you manage to fill the meter and land a triple move, Jinx will be defeated. As a reward for your hard work, this time you will get a Teamwork Band accessory. This will allow you to fill the action gauge more quickly, so you can use more triple moves in a single fight. This is certainly a very useful accessory for defeating the other post-game bosses that you will have the opportunity to face, such as Culex.
