SwitchArcade Round-Up: ‘Gardener’s Path’, ‘Horatio Goes Snowboarding’, Plus Today’s Other New Releases and Sales

Hello gentle readers, and welcome to the SwitchArcade Round-Up for December 22nd, 2021. Perhaps to little surprise, a generally quiet weekday in a very quiet week doesn’t have a whole lot of excitement going on. Very little news worth noting, but we do have a few new releases to look at. Beyond those summaries, we’ve got the usual lists of new and expiring sales for you to mull over. A few decent ones in the list today, at least. Let’s dig in and see what we’ve got!

New Releases

Gardener’s Path ($4.99)

Ah, that’s a nice bit of pixel art there. This is a puzzle game where you need to protect lush underground gardens by battling giant insects. In each of the game’s sixty stages, you zip around attacking the insects with the occasional assist from the plants and some power-ups. It’s one of those games where when you push in a direction, your character will keep moving in that direction until they run into something. If you bump an enemy, you’ll attack them. Seems like a decent bit of fun for a fiver.

Horatio Goes Snowboarding ($6.99)

Hmmm, that title seems vaguely familiar. I wonder if Horatio has a cousin who prefers skiing? Anyway, this is a pick-up-and-play snowboarding game. You use your money to buy a board, work through the traffic to reach a helicopter that will take you to the summit, and then slalom down some procedurally-generated slopes avoiding yetis, trees, and other obstacles. Be careful, as a misstep will send you to the hospital and the bill won’t be kind to your remaining funds. As long as you’ve got the cash, you can keep on going. There are online leaderboards so you can see who reigns the mountain.

Zombie Watch ($12.00)

This is a top-down survival game with a zombie theme, and while it may look okay in the screenshots I must sadly report that it just isn’t very good. It feels clunky to play, and I can’t tell if the damage model is buggy or just intentionally annoying. Overall, it comes off as somewhat half-baked. Checking around on reviews on other platforms shows I’m not the only one that feels this way about it. A shame, as it seems to have some impressive ambitions.

Sales

(North American eShop, US Prices)

Okay, I think the major sales waves have slowed a little. Not going to put any bets on there not being another big wave on Christmas Eve, but today’s list is fairly manageable. Today’s highlights mostly come down to a few Koei Tecmo games, giving you a chance to pick up Atelier Sophie at a discount ahead of the upcoming sequel or stock up on some iffy-but-fun Ninja Gaiden ports. You may instead want to direct your attention to the outbox, where the latest Arcade Archives sales are wrapping up. I’ll say the usual: it’s very rare for ACA NEOGEO games in particular to have repeat sales, so grab them if you want them.

That’s all for today, friends. Tomorrow is Thursday, which is usually the big release day of the week. Given which week this is, things are a bit more low-key than we typically see, but you can look forward to things like Beastie Bay DX, Arcade Archives Xexex, and Tunnel of Doom. We’ll have summaries of all of those games and whatever new sales come along in the next day. Maybe even some news, if anything big happens. I hope you all have a wonderful Wednesday, and as always, thanks for reading!
