Team Heretics Add Prime League Mid Laner to the 2023 LEC Roster

Team Heretics are continuing their roster building by bringing Lee “Ruby” Sol-min on.

The Spanish organization founded by the Youtuber Jorge “Goorgo” Orejudo will be one of two new faces that will be a part of LEC in 2023. Heretics bought the LEC spot this July when Misfits Gaming decided to move away from the European League of Legends scene, for an amount reportedly near $30M. Team Heretics won SuperLiga and European Masters 2022 in their last year in the ERL system, making everyone question which players they would decide to keep on the roster for 2023.

They are now one more step closer to establishing their full roster. According to a new report from blix.gg’s Alejandro “anonimotum” Gomis, the Spanish organization has reached a verbal agreement with the Korean mid laner from Prime League’s UOL Sexy Edition. Ruby was considered one of the best mid laners in the German ERL and was a critical piece of his team’s first-place finish in playoffs. He also attended the EM 2022 with UOL Sexy Edition and was eliminated by Team Heretics in the quarterfinals. Ruby previously played in LCK and LPL on Afreeca Freecs, now Kwangdong Freecs and Rogue Warriors, now Anyone’s Legend, respectively.

Team Heretics building for the future

When looking at their roster-building strategy, it looks like Heretics are making moves to have a successful future, even if not necessarily an immediate one. Their first move for the LEC season was the re-signing of their young ADC Jakob “Jackspektra” Gullvag Kepple. The Norweigian bot laner was a big part of Heretic’s successful split, and he was seen as one of the best LEC prospects in the ERL ecosystem.

Jackspektra is currently the only player that looks like will be brought to LEC from SuperLiga by Heretics. Artur “Zwyroo” Trojan also had a very good split and looked like he could be a promising mid laner in the top European league. Still, Heretics decided to go with Ruby for the spot. Both he and Jackspektra will reportedly be joined by Mertai “Mersa” Sari, who was the Misfits Gaming’s support last season. Mersa has just played his rookie year in LEC, and his performance continuously improved throughout the year.

The other and maybe the most important transfer rumor for Team Heretics is not a player, but their head coach. After spending two years in North America with Evil Geniuses, Peter Dun was looking for a new team and apparently, Heretics will be his new home. Dun is known for his talent development and roster-building skills. He found a lot of success both in EU with Splyce, now MAD Lions, and in NA with Evil Geniuses.
