The Most Disappointing CDL Teams This Year

Many teams this year had high expectations, and others were set up for failure from the start.

Here are the most disappointing CDL teams this year.

Paris Legion

For the past three years, the Paris Legion have shown that they are okay with putting up mediocre results. The franchise is reluctant to do anything more than the bare minimum, starting at the top.

During the Modern Warfare (2019) season, former Paris Legion member and current NYSL player Matthew “Kismet” had issues with them back then too.

“They forced me in Cali [during] Year 1 to pay a $6k rent and said no to TX and after, told me I was gonna have to live and play in France,” he explained. “That org is wack … I told Drew he was dumb and he dropped me on my head after telling me that. F**king joke of a guy.”

Regardless of ownership, this season, the Paris Legion showed flashes of its potential earning around $25,000, taking down some top teams like the Seattle Surge, and close to beating Atlanta FaZe. But a last-place finish in the regular season and failure to qualify for Champs is not even close to being good enough.

Hopefully, a new start in Las Vegas will change their team’s narrative and help build a strong fanbase.

Minnesota Rokkr

While researching for this article, I discovered a fact I couldn’t believe. The Minnesota Rokkr earned less in winnings than the Paris Legion this season.

Minnesota Earnings: $20,000

Paris Earnings: $22,500

Pretty embarrassing.

Along with that, their downfall costed them their spot at Champs. Besides Dillon “Attach” Price their team has failed to live up to expectations. Deciding to stick with the same team from last year that won a championship, the Rokkr have yet to see the same success this year.

A key reason they missed Champs is because of the event placings:

Major 1: T-8

Major 2: 9-12

Pro-Am Classic: 9-12

Major 3: T-8

 Major4: 9-12

Going into the offseason, it’s going to be interesting to see how they will maneuver their roster and who they will build around.

OpTic Texas

This one might sound crazy to some, but after their Major 1 win and Major 2 qualifiers, OpTic Texas fans saw their results drop fast.

Major 2: T-6

Pro-Am Classic: T-4

Major 3: T-6

Major 4: 4th

On paper, OpTic Texas is one of the league’s most talented teams, and their results this year didn’t reflect that.

Everyone considered OpTic to be an unstoppable team after their championship run at Major 1 and the community didn’t expect them to slow down. Losing their star player Indervir “iLLeY” Dhaliwal and playing with different substitutes made it hard to keep up with the other top teams.  Placings at tournaments began to fall, and people turned their backs on OpTic.

This team, especially on LAN can beat any team in the game if they show up in their best form. And with Champs around the corner, look for OpTic to play as they did at the beginning of the year.
