Just after a solid weekend of play, the Boston Uprising have made another massive organizational change. On Monday June 27, the Boston Uprising announced the release of longtime General Manager and President of Gaming Chris “Huk” Loranger. Huk had been with the Uprising since the Inaugural Season. The change signifies a change of direction in management styles. Replacing him is former Assistant General Manager Vytis “Mineral” Laisaitis.

The notorious President of Gaming built the initial roster for the Boston Uprising back in 2018. Since then Huk has played a huge part in scouting and building the roster for the Uprising each year. This lead to the narrative of Boston finding “hidden gems” across the Contenders landscape. Though often times missing on those diamonds in the rough, Huk did manage to find some players that are still competing in the league today.

The announcement comes as a mixed bag in terms of reactions from across the community. Boston fans are generally open to the release, as many had blamed Huk for the middling results year after year. Those who had worked closely with Huk found him to be a professional in an otherwise inexperienced managerial landscape.
The release also signifies a changing of the guard in the Uprising clubhouse. After years of failing to reach the success of the Inaugural season, new owners Oxygen Esports are looking to change the course halfway through the fifth season of the Overwatch League. Now under the commander of Mineral, the Uprising are hoping to find a way into the Midseason Madness tournament.
