How we are Ranking the Top 10 Fire Type Pokemon of All-Time

Truthfully, most of this will be based on personal preference. Some of the other factors will be popularity in previous polls, amount of times in games, shows and movies, etc. No Pokemon will appear on these lists twice.

If you feel something was egregiously missed then let us know in the comments. Other than that, enjoy!

10. Vulpix

This one was a surprise considering all of the fantastic fire Pokemon. That being said, it has been around since the beginning and has been adorable throughout. So much so that Brock used it on his team even though he was a Rock Pokemon trainer. The design has always been one of the best and when playing those original games it was a version exclusive so when you got one, it always felt special.

9. Coalossal

Coalossal felt like the more interesting version of another solid Pokemon, Golem. It is huge and the fact that Pokemon found a way to make coal interesting is truly shocking. The major weaknesses to Ground and Water certainly keep it from being a major force, but the Rock and Fire typing makes it quite an interesting Pokemon. One that many likely grabbed on their journeys in Galar.

8. Houndoom

As someone who has played Pokemon since the beginning, Gen 2 will always stand out. Mainly because as a child, you had no idea that a second series of games was coming until they started a crazy marketing campaign. One of the great additions were Dark Pokemon and one of the best designs was Houndoom. This devil dog could breathe fire and was an instant favorite. So much so that it got a Mega form which was a welcome surprise, to say the least.

7. Blaziken

There are many who are going to say that this is way too low for Blaziken. Just look above and see that this was one of the hardest choices to make. Blaziken is one of the most popular Pokemon and for good reason. It was the first of a long line of fire and fighting combination starters that some have come to dislike. But, those who played Ruby and Sapphire, will remember how great it felt to get this Pokemon. It has an incredible design and continues to get the love that it deserves.

6. Chandelure

Until Chandelure there were no Fire and Ghost Pokemon then the Fire Nation attacked. Wait, wrong series. Anyway, Chandelure was such a great addition to the Pokedex in Gen 5. It was extremely strong and had an excellent move pool. Along with that, Litwick was adorable and very hard to pass up. Add onto this that you could get one right at Level 41 by living poor Lampent a Dusk Stone and it was game over in Unova.

5. Cinderace

With the Galar region being set in England it only made sense that a soccer-related Pokemon would be added to the series. It was a bit of a surprise when it was a fire rabbit that was a starter. Yet, Cinderace and its pre-evolutions ended up being some of the best-designed Pokemon in Generation 8. Their special attack, Pyro Ball was incredible to see and hit like a truck. Cinderace felt like it had the perfect name, design and all of the above.

4. Arcanine

Before diving too deep, Hisuian Arcanine can be added along with Knato Arcanine. This giant fire dog Pokemon was seen in the opening of the original Pokemon anime and has truly been a fan-favorite since its release. It has such a simplistic design but it screams majestic. Evolving a Growlithe for the first time was an incredible experience and it felt like this firey pup could help you take on the world.

3. Charizard

There are a lot of starting Pokemon on this list and while Charizard is not number one, it is truly one of the all-time great Pokemon. Aside from Pikachu, Charizard is likely in the running as the second mascot of the franchise. The original Charizard card, 1st Edition and Shadowless, is one of the rarest and most sought-after cards in the history of trading card games. And, getting a Charizard one your first runs as a child was something magical. It is one of the greatest Pokemon ever and even putting it here on this list was excruciating.

2. Typhlosion

This is where the Gen 2 bias starts to show. Typhlosion is such an odd but amazing-looking Pokemon. The fire mane and the coat on its back are truly incredible designs. This Pokemon is one that was hard not to like and Cyndaquil was a cute and powerful starter in its own right. It is hard not to want to pick the fire starter in general but knowing Typhlosion was the end result made it even tougher. This Pokemon was so liked and popular that it was even chosen to get a Hisuian form which made it Fire and Ghost.

1. Ceruledge

There are a lot of people who are going to scream recency bias, and they may be right. But, how can you not feel like Ceruledge is one of the best designs not just from Gen 9 but in Pokemon? It is just incredibly cool. The firey ghost swords, the ghost knight just the colors as well are so well-done. Paldea brought with it some of the best designs of the last few generations and Ceruledge reigns supreme over all of them. Add onto this that its move pool is incredible and again, it is Fire and Ghost in terms of typing and it instantly shot up to being the best Fire Pokemon for this writer.

Chopping this down to 10 Pokemon and then deciding where to put each one was quite the task. But, hopefully you enjoyed it! Let us know what your favorite Fire Pokemon are and look out for the rest of the top 10 lists as they get released.
