Where is WoW Shadowlands 9.2?

World of Warcraft Shadowlands is still alive and kicking, but it’s set to meet its end with patch 9.2.

So far, 9.2 has been in the PTR for nearly two months as it’s still receiving updates. Some of these include the return of class sets, a new raid, Sepulcher of the First Ones, the usual class balancing, a new zone, Zereth Mortis, and much more.

This has left many wondering about the progress of the game’s last patch. But prior to touching upon that we first have to set a timeline going back to the Shadowlands’ initial release.

Shadowlands Timeline

In the new expansion, Azeroth’s heroes were transported into the realm of death in which they have been able to not only reconnect with past fallen champions but take the fight to Sylvanas Windrunner and the Jailer.

Boasting only two patches, patch 9.1 and patch 9.2 in the future, the Shadowlands expansion is set to be one of the shortest yet. At first, the hype of new content brought every World of Warcraft fan together, but after its release, the emotion quickly faded away as the game took longer than expected to bring about new updates.

It has been an arduous process getting to 9.2, but here’s how we got there.

Shadowlands 9.0

With its initial release on November 23, 2020, WoW Shadowlands gave players plenty of new things to do. Be it signing up for a Covenant for the first time, getting to enjoy the new class changes, participating in PvP, or working to take down Sire Denthrius and Mythic+ dungeon content.

But like any other expansion, the initial content runs out: there is only so many weekly Castle of Nathria clears you can do. Then came WoW Shadowlands 9.1.

In what was the longest wait period for a first major update of an expansion in World of Warcraft history, Shadowlands 9.1 was finally released on June 29, 2021.

The seven-month-long wait brought forth a plethora of new content. Covenant stories were continued, a new zone, Korthia, and a new mega-dungeon, Tazavesh were unveiled, and there were also updates to Torghast and the Maw. The new patch also allowed players to fly in specific Shadowlands zones and added a new raid, the Sanctum of Domination, in which Azeroth’s heroes got a chance to finally take down Sylvanas once and for all.

But to many, this was too little too late. The abnormal wait made it so a lot of the game’s fans lost interest.

Shadowlands 9.1.5

Following 9.1 was a much-needed 9.1.5. Releasing five months later on November 2, 2021, the update brought several quality of life changes and content that bettered the overall Shadowlands experience.

These included leveling speed changes, the ability to swap Covenants, AoE cap removal, Legion Timewalking with the Mage tower, and more.

This update was met with a ton of positive feedback eliminating some of the worst negatives of Shadowlands while bringing back a fan favorite piece of content in the return of the Mage Tower.

Now seven month later, players have grown frustrated with the wait leading to the expansion’s final step, Shadowlands 9.2.

Shadowlands 9.2

Shadowlands 9.2 will be the final patch of WoW Shadowlands.

First put into the PTR in December of 2021, Blizzard has been endlessly working on it. With over a total of 15 updates to the patch notes since then, WoW fans are in for several new changes.

From the return of class sets to the game and new zone, Zereth Mortis to the new raid, Sepulcher of the First Ones, there is plenty to go through once the patch goes live. But so far, it’s difficult to predict when that will be as, due to updates still hitting the PTR, and Shadowlands’ track record so far, a timeframe on 9.2’s release is hard to formulate.

For now, our predicted WoW Shadowlands 9.2 release date is February 22nd, but we’ll see if this timeline holds up.

What’s next for World of Warcraft?

As Shadowlands comes to a close that means that a new expansion will soon follow.

Following the usual “season of leaks” trend around this time of an expansion’s lifespan, a lot of speculations and unconfirmed leaks have risen to the surface.

All of these ideas seemed to point to one common thing, The Dragon Isles. With dragons as a focal point, leaks claim the expansion will focus on healing Azeroth’s world soul.

While we have no official information on the next WoW expansion, it will very likely be the first major release for Blizzard after its acquisition by Microsoft completes in 2022.
