Where to find Naydra in Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom (TotK)

The three mystical elemental dragons, Farosh, Dinraal, and Naydra, have enraptured players ever since their initial appearance in Breath of the Wild. And with their return in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, players can enjoy gawking at them and obtaining their rare parts all over again. Having said that, Tears of the Kingdom does slightly change the dragons’ flight patterns as well as the ways in which you can interact with them. So if you want to find, say, the ice dragon Naydra, you will have to rethink your approach if you played the previous game. This guide will explain where you can come across Naydra as well as how to obtain its parts in Tears of the Kingdom.

Locations where Naydra commonly appears

The Hyrule Compendium entry for Naydra states that it mainly resides in the Lanayru region in the east of Hyrule. Every other day during early afternoon hours, you can spot Naydra circling the Mount Lanayru Skyview Tower before passing behind the Hateno Ancient Tech Lab. This serves as probably the most reliable and accessible method for spotting Naydra, but you don’t have to rely on this method alone.

After passing the lab, it will slowly circle around and eventually enter the chasm near Kakariko Village shortly after midnight. Once it reaches the Depths, it will travel from near the Abandoned Kakariko Mine toward other nearby areas until it eventually resurfaces. But for your convenience, you only really need to know about the core three locations it can appear in or near: Mount Lanayru, the Hateno lab, and the Kakariko chasm.

How to collect Naydra’s parts

You can obtain Naydra’s parts through largely the same method as in Breath of the Wild, which involves gliding toward it from a high vantage point and firing an arrow at its body, hand, horn, or mouth to obtain Naydra’s Scale, Naydra’s Claw, a Shard of Naydra’s Horn, or a Shard of Naydra’s Fang respectively. And just like in that game, you can only obtain one of these items every time you encounter it.

But in an interesting twist, Tears of the Kingdom now gives players the option to ride on top of Naydra. It’s best to do this from up in the sky, either from a Skyview Tower launch or one of the sky islands close to Naydra’s current position. You will need cold protection if you plan on riding it, either through the warm clothing set from Rito Village or through certain cooked items, such as a Spicy Elixir.

Once you land on it, you go up to the spikes on its back and pick up a new item called the Shard of Naydra’s Spike. You can find quite a few of these lying on Naydra’s back, so feel free to run the entire length of its back in search of them.

Collecting Naydra’s parts in Tears of the Kingdom comes with a number of benefits. For one, you can fuse them with any of your weapons to grant them a massive attack buff as well as an ice property. Additionally, you can sell them for large amounts of rupees or cook them in meals to augment their effects. In Breath of the Wild, certain clothing items required dragon parts to upgrade, so the same likely remains true in Tears of the Kingdom.
