It really shouldn’t come as much of a surprise to those who played the game that a sequel is coming for Star Wars Jedi: Survivor. While the story is amazing, it’s not exactly what you would say is “finished.” There are a lot more plot points to explore and a lot of unanswered questions that need answering.

Sure enough, during the Ocala Comic Con 2023 in Florida, Cameron Monaghan, the actor playing Cal Kestis, revealed that a sequel to Jedi: Survivor is already in the works. As Monaghan was delivering the news, his co-star Tina Ivlev, who plays Merrin in the game, was nodding with a positive smile on her face. This was the first official update regarding the sequel of the game.

Respawn Entertainment has since then listed several Job Postings looking for Principal Combat Designers, Principal Software Engineers, Technical Gameplay Designers, etc., to join their Star Wars Jedi team on their website.

Although we’re still just speculating at this point, it does hint that the development of the third installment of the Jedi series is already in progress.

On a surprising turn of events, however, Stig Asmussen, the mastermind behind the Jedi: Fallen Order and Jedi: Survivor, has been confirmed to leave Electronic Arts. He played a pivotal role in the success of the first two games. So, what his departure does for the game remains to be seen.

All we know at this point is that we loved both the games and can’t wait to find out what the Third installment has in store for us!

What We Can Expect From Star Wars Jedi: Survivor Sequel

Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, when it launched, was plagued with frequent crashes and bugs. And to make matters worse, it would run poorly even on top-tier hardware (think – RTX 4090). However, frequent patches and updates fixed most, if not all, of the issues that were hurting its sales.

Since then, many people have gone through the main storyline, and most have loved it, itching for more. If you plan on finishing the story on your own, then Spoiler Alert: the following section will reveal a lot of the major plot points in the game,

With that said, here’s what we can expect from the Star Wars Jedi: Survivor sequel in terms of story content.

  • The Dark Side Emerges

If you’re into the lore of the universe, you already know that there are two sides of the Force: Light and Dark. While Cal is a Jedi, a representative of the Light side of the Force, in Jedi: Survivor, he is put into a situation where he needs to embrace the Dark side. This is the first time in the entire series that we see Cal use the Dark side.

When he uses the Dark Side, he gets a new ability where he slows down time, goes into a rage, and starts dealing massive damage to the enemy. Although this does not mean that Cal is a bad guy now, it does present some interesting possibilities for the future.

Maybe we’ll get to see more variations of the Dark Side of the Force in the sequel to Jedi: Survivor. Perhaps Cal’s struggle with the temptations of the Dark Side will be a driving force in the future game. For now, we can only hope!

  • A New Padawan

One of the biggest twists in Jedi: Survivor is when Bode Akuna, Cal’s best friend and ally since the game begins, turns out to be a traitor. Bode is, in fact, a former Jedi who started working with the Empire to protect his daughter, Kata Akuna.

During the final boss fight of the game, Bode Akuna gets killed, and Kata Akuna is left in the care of Cal, Merrin, and the rest of the crew. Since her father is force-sensitive, it’s highly possible that Kata will be one of the few force-sensitive children born in the Star Wars Dark Times when the Empire is ruling the galaxy.

If that’s true, then we might see Cal taking on the role of a Master to his Padawan Kata. This would lead to some interesting situations and dynamics, much like what we saw in Marvel’s Spiderman games between Miles and Peter or God of War games between Kratos and Atreus.

Of course, it’s pure speculation, but it would certainly bring a breath of fresh air to the video game series. This plot line would also pair well as Cal comes to terms with the Dark Side of the Force while helping someone at the same time.

  • Explore the Hidden Path

The hunt for the mysterious planet Tanalorr was one of the main plots of Jedi: Survivor. Hidden away from plain sight, this planet serves as a safe haven for the Hidden Path, a network of Jedi and other outcasts from the Empire. Although we get to find Tanalorr in the end, we don’t see much of it in the game.

It’s very likely that we’ll see more of Tanalorr and go further into the lore of the Hidden Path and how Cal helped the network survive against the oppression of the Empire. This could also help tie in the Star Wars Jedi universe to the movie universe going further.

What’s Next for the Series?

Star Wars Jedi: Survivor has made its mark as one of the best Star Wars games for this generation. The adventure of Cal and the Mantis crew across the Galaxy exploring new planets and fighting the Evil Empire appeals to anyone whether you’re a fan of the universe or not.

What comes next for the series? – We don’t know yet.

But from what we’ve seen from the series so far, we know that we’re pretty excited for the future!
