Xtreme Gaming eliminate Team Liquid from Elite League to make it two Chinese teams in the top 3 | GosuGamers

Xtreme Gaming defeated Team Liquid 2-1 to secure a spot in the top 3 of Elite League. They join Team Falcons and Azure Ray in the last day of the tournament.

Chinese Dota 2 has been lackluster for the last few years. There has typically been just one Chinese team challenging the top teams in tournaments for the past two to three seasons. But that is surely changing in the 2023-2024 Dota 2 season. Chinese teams are having a small resurgence, and that is evident from the results of Elite League.

Team Falcons secured their place in the grand final of Elite League by defeating Azure Ray 2-0 in the upper bracket final. In the final game of the penultimate day, Xtreme Gaming took on Team Liquid to secure a place in the top 3, and came out on top with a 2-1 win over the Western European outfit. Liquid were coming off a 2-0 win over Gaimin Gladiators and had momentum on their side, but they didn’t have the answers to Xtreme Gaming’s creative drafts.

The first two games were pretty one sided. XG dominated game 1 with a mid Viper, and won the game in a little over 33 minutes with a kill score of 34-11. Liquid repaid the favor with a 27-4 thrashing in game 2 on the backs of Oracle, a hero iconic to them. That game took only 28 minutes.

The third game was where things got really interesting. XG first phased a Bloodseeker to counter Liquid’s first phase Pangolier, but sent him mid instead of the safe lane. Liquid picked the Medusa, as her HP is pretty much her mana, which doesn’t add to Bloodseeker’s Thirst. XG pulled out the Clinkz as their carry, although that was before the Medusa pick. Team Liquid had a slight lead for the first half an hour of the game or so, but the new Medusa is not like the old one, which gets stronger as the game goes longer. Two quick deaths on Medusa turned the tides and XG ended up winning the game. Pangolier had a Linken’s Sphere, but after the changes from Dota 2 patch 7.33, Spellblock can be activated with any targeted spell even when Pangolier is in his Rolling Thunder form. That makes Rupture a lot easier to get off on the hero. Also, the Medusa illusions Dark Seer got in the fights did a lot of damage to the Team Liquid heroes.

The two Chinese teams – Azure Ray and Xtreme Gaming – will fight it out in the lower bracket final of Elite League and the winner will go on to face Team Falcons in the best-of-5 grand final. Team Falcons have looked undefeatable in the last few months, and are going for a hattrick of premier Dota 2 tournament wins. If either of the Chinese teams are able to topple them, it will set a great narrative for the upcoming tournaments as we transition from patch 7.35 to patch 7.36.
