GDC Announces New Dates For Summer 2020

The COVID-19 (coronavirus) pandemic has led to many gaming events being cancelled or postponed, including GDC 2020, was due to happen from March 16-20. Now, GDC has announced a new event for 2020, called GDC Summer, which will happen later this year.

GDC Summer 2020 is planned to run from August 4-6, and will be split between presentations, interviews, and a two-day show floor that will be accessible on August 5 and 6. It will take place at the Moscone Center in San Francisco.

Registration is not open yet, early-bird pricing will mean that Conference Passes are available for $299, with Expo Passes for those who just want to visit the show floor costing $99. These prices will end on July 10.

The postponement of GDC 2020 was necessary, but has also made things more difficult for many development teams that rely on GDC for making contacts and pitching their games. The Steam Spring Game Festival, currently running, lets players access demos of many of the games that would have been shown at GDC.

The GDC Awards, meanwhile, were recently livestreamed–and Untitled Goose Game picked up Game of the Year. Honk!

Here’s our round-up on how COVID-19 has impacted the games industry so far.
