Microsoft has confirmed that another one of its upcoming exclusives is being developed using Epic’s newly announced Unreal Engine 5. In a blog post, Microsoft announced that Senua’s Saga: Hellblade II will be developed using the brand-new technology.
Microsoft said the use of this new engine will “bring the Hellblade franchise to levels never before seen.” The announcement trailer shown in December 2019 was captured in-engine, and is meant to represent what the Xbox Series X is capable of, Microsoft said. You can re-watch that video below.
Not all of Microsoft’s game studios will use Unreal Engine 5. For example, 343 Industries is using its own proprietary technology, the Slipspace Engine, to develop Halo Infinite.
Unreal Engine 5 is the latest iteration of Epic’s widely used game-making toolsuite. The engine–which promises to deliver photorealistic graphics–will arrive in a preview state for developers beginning in early 2021 before launching for everyone later in the year.
