Back 4 Blood roadmap includes an offline solo mode, DLC Annual Pass & more

Turtle Rock Studios has revealed the content roadmap for their co-op zombie shooter Back 4 Blood. It details a bunch of free content and feature updates, as well as the paid Annual Pass that will be coming out over the next year. One of the headline features is the addition of a solo offline mode with campaign progression.

The lack of campaign progression when playing solo was a key complaint at Back 4 Blood’s launch. While the game does have a solo mode, it was intentionally kept separate so that only online play (whether with bots or with other people) would earn you the supply points needed to buy cards and power up. That, to put it simply, felt like a mean-spirited decision by someone somewhere in the game’s development.

Back 4 Blood Annual Pass Roadmap

The roadmap also lays out what is in store for the DLC ‘Annual Pass’, with three expansions to be released through 2022 adding new levels to battle through. Tunnels of Terror will be the first expansion, adding new story content, more playable Cleaners and Ridden, activity type, weapons, cards, and exclusive skins

The Annual Pass costs £35 standalone, but is bundled in for those that decided to buy the digital Deluxe Edition for £90, or the Ultimate Edition for £100.

Back 4 Blood is out for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PS4, Xbox One and PC. It’s been available to play through Xbox Game Pass since day one, with full cross-play multiplayer across all platforms, which is nice.

Reviewing Back 4 Blood at launch, Nick came away with some decidedly mixed feelings:

“I so badly want to love Back 4 Blood, but its grindy nature and difficulty spikes out of nothing let it down, leaving you with a bad taste in your mouth. It has potential for those in it for the long haul, accumulating cards and building specialised decks to match the challenge, but right now I just have no desire to go back 4 more.”

Not a ringing endorsement, but with a good group of friends (or at least the ability to now grind effectively when you’re playing solo), there’s some decent steps forward in this roadmap.
