Beat Saber update 1.38 brings multiplayer to PS VR

Beat Saber update 1.38 is now available to download for PlayStation VR. As promised, this latest free update released by Beat Games finally adds online multiplayer.

So how does this new mode actually work? Beat Saber players can dive into multiplayer matches (either private or public) to compete for the highest score, whether battling against a lone rival or playing against up to four other opponents.

Sharing some details over on the Official PlayStation Blog, Beat Games confirmed that all songs can be accessed in multiplayer. However, we’re waiting on confirmation as to whether you need to have a purchased one of the premium songs to play them online.

The Beat Saber multiplayer update will also allow you to create and personalise your own avatar to add some flare. Online matches are still played in first person though you’ll be able to see your opponents in the lobby arena.

Here are some other features you can look forward to in today’s update:

  • Multiplayer Badges: How did everyone do in the match? See who was the most precise slicer or the slowest one. Everyone gets the badge they deserve.
  • Exciting result screen: Enjoy the fireworks while celebrating on the winner’s podium next to each other.
  • Possibility to set custom colors in Multiplayer: Choose your favorite custom colors for cubes and sabers.
