As you upgrade your home on Dondoko Island, you pass certain milestones. As a reward, your life meter extends, up to an eventual maximum of 10 hearts. The longer life meter makes it easier to survive encounters with the suspicious individuals who sometimes raid. You can also endure the infrequent boss encounters. To make the best Dondoko Island house upgrades, first expand the building and then place furnishings that improve home satisfaction.

To expand your home, visit Kenzo at the Matayoshiya shop. If you have enough Dokobucks, you can pay him to make a few improvements, one at a time. The first expansion costs 100,000 Dokobucks. It’s costly, but make it a priority. The second upgrade doesn’t have to happen anytime soon. In fact, you may not need it at all. That’s good, since it costs 1,500,000 Dokobucks. Don’t worry about it until you are regularly entertaining wealthy guests.

The first house expansion gives you room to work, and space to place especially useful furnishings. When you view DIY Info from the menu, you can press the button indicated on-screen to go through sorting options. Sort according to Satisfaction. You want to choose items that show a green heart and a blue house lit up, next to a big number. Such furnishings are great for your interior design. Ideally, those items will be quite small, so you have enough room to place a few of them. However, some of the best items are pretty huge. I’m especially partial to the bus. It ain’t pretty, but it gets results!

Acquiring the best blueprints for your home

As you continue crafting, you will gradually level up your Building Talent rating. The rating can reach a maximum of level 50. Every time you level up, you gain access to new blueprints. This is one of the fastest ways to expand your furnishing options.

Below are names of some of my favorite items to place in Kasuga’s home, along with info about the level at which they unlock:

  • Jacuzzi With Lion Faucet (Level 15)
  • Bus (Level 33)
  • Kappa Statue (Level 48)
  • Golden Gachapin Statue (Level 50)
  • Golden Mukku Statue (Level 50)
  • Golden Kasuga Statue (Level 50)

At lower levels, you have to work with what you can get. There’s no rule saying you can’t have more than one of a useful item. Each blueprint offers info on how much space the item will require before you craft it. The statues are small and packed with value, but most of them only unlock near the end.

You should regularly review the blueprints you have available, to see if something new and efficient is at your disposal. You can also find a few blueprints back on the mainland. Highlights include the valuable Ornamental Snake Jar, acquired by talking to an NPC at the Anaconda Shopping Center. The blueprint for the Gold Armchair, another useful item, is found in a bottle around the island.

Make sure to check any bottles you find lying on the beach (and elsewhere), until you stop receiving additional blueprints. Don’t neglect the other blueprints you have to tend to, either. But a healthy adventurer needs a satisfying home.
