Borussia Dortmund vs Villarreal Match Analysis and Prediction

Borussia Dortmund and Villarreal will get their preparations for next season underway with a pre-season friendly in Austria on Friday evening with kickoff at 8 pm.

Dortmund have played four friendlies this summer, starting their preparations for the new season with a 3-1 victory over Luner SV on July 5 before beating Dynamo Dresden and Verl in their next two.

BVB will enter this contest off the back of a defeat, though, having lost 3-1 to Valencia on Monday, with Goncalo Guedes (two) and Marcos Andre on the scoresheet for the La Liga side, while Marco Reus netted for the German club from the penalty spot in the 51st minute.

Dortmund’s next friendly is against Villarreal on July 16 before they take on Antalyaspor at home on July 20 and 1860 Munich in their opening DFB-Pokal clash on July 29.

Villarreal have played two friendlies this summer, losing 1-1 to Sporting Lisbon on July 14 before beating PSV Eindhoven 2-1 last time out.

The Yellow Submarine will now face Dortmund, Southampton and Inter Milan in friendlies before beginning their La Liga campaign away to Real Valladolid on August 13.

Last season Villarreal finished seventh in La Liga, which was enough to qualify for the playoff round of the Europa Conference League but still a disappointment considering that they made it to the semi-finals of the Champions League in 2021-22.

Borussia Dortmund Team News

Dortmund announced this week that new signing Haller has a testicular tumour, so he will be unavailable for selection while he undergoes treatment. Head coach Terzic is again expected to select a 4-2-3-1 formation on Friday evening, and most of the XI that took to the field against Valencia could start this contest.

Villarreal Team News

New signing Lucas Villarreal could make his debut for Villarreal against PSV Eindhoven. Head coach Unai Emery is expected to select an experienced starting XI, with Gerard Moreno potentially being joined in the final third of the field by Arnaut Danjuma.

Prediction and Odds

We’re predicting goals in this match. Dortmund are further ahead in their preparations for the new season, but an entertaining Villarreal side should have enough to avoid defeat against the German giants in their pre-season clash.
