Counter-Strike: Global Offensive is the most competitive shooter in the world. It is also one of the top-tier eSports, which explains why so many people do everything they can to become among the best. Unfortunately, achieving this is not as easy as it seems, and it often requires them to play a lot.

Speaking of playing, every top-tier CS player spends some time in matchmaking. Some of the best in the world also focus on third-party leagues, such as Faceit, but matchmaking plays a key role.

Even though some people (mainly those in the EU region) do not have problems while playing, others come across a lot of annoying things. We’re not sure if we can squeeze in everything, but this article will try to highlight most of them.

Facing the same players

The first problem that some people do not talk about is related to the players you face. Everyone has had at least a couple of games where they’ve met annoying players who ruined the fun. Usually, people can simply avoid them and play with other people in their next game. However, there are cases where this is easier said than done.

While it is true that this is not a big problem for players who reside in Europe, the smaller CSGO regions might be affected by it. This is especially true for higher-ranked players because there are just not that many top-tier players on this level.

Some CSGO fans might not have problems playing against the same people over and over again, but others might get bored. Unfortunately, this will continue to be a problem unless many new people start playing the game. The good news is that CSGO continues to be among the preferred shooters because we’ve recently reported that the game had more than 1M concurrent players for the second month in a row.

Expect teammates and opponents from a wide range of ranks and leagues

Have you ever wondered why some people on your team are way better than others, and yet you have teammates and opponents who have no idea what they’re doing? The answer is simple – you will play with players from different ranks.

The fact that you’ve reached DMG, Gold Nova, or any other league doesn’t always mean you will play with people from the same ranks. Sure, the majority of them will be around that, but it is not uncommon to face people from other skill brackets.

Some people don’t have problems with it, but others are annoyed by the fact that they need to play against better or worse players than them. Unsurprisingly, some of the players in the lower ranks are actually smurfs or boosters, which means it becomes even more difficult to win.

One of the problems that many people don’t realize when playing against people that are way better than you is that you don’t have fun. Sure, there are players who want to use this opportunity and learn, but most are not like that. In fact, they get bored and annoyed by the fact that everyone seems better than them, so they simply choose another game. You may think that this is not a problem, but it is because it has an effect on the CSGO community as a whole

Long waiting times

Some people who haven’t played CSGO yet think that they can open the game, queue up for a competitive match and find a game right away. Sadly, this is not the case, especially if you are in the higher ranks. Similar to other games, such as Dota 2, there are cases where you may have to wait for at least a couple of minutes.

There have been many horror stories regarding queue time, especially on Reddit. Valve definitely made some improvements in the last couple of years, but since players don’t want to wait long, they often get lower or higher-ranked players in their games. 

To be honest, Valve can’t really do anything to fix this problem if there aren’t enough players. You either have to wait for up to one hour to find a match or team up with better/worse players than you. It seems like most players are happy with the second option.

The trust factor has a big impact on your games

The fact that CSGO has something called the trust factor is not a surprise, and it is similar to Dota 2’s behavior score. Interestingly, the two things work in the same way because having a lower trust factor has an effect on the players you meet and those you have to go up against.

Your trust factor in CSGO is affected but a couple of things, one of which is the number of reports. The fact that people report you have an effect, and you will eventually meet with other players that also receive reports. This is a recipe for disaster because there will be a point where everyone on your and your enemy’s team will just want to ruin the fun for others.

In other words, avoiding getting reported at all costs is advisable, especially if you play a lot. This will inevitably have an effect on your experience and ranking problems.

The algorithm

We’d like to conclude this article by saying that the CSGO algorithm for matchmaking is not the best. You’ve probably seen at least a couple of videos where players complain a lot about it. There have been analyses of players who secure something like 10 or even more wins in a row and still don’t rank up.

No one knows whether Valve will fix these problems in the future. It is definitely not easy for the company to take into account everything mentioned here, especially when there are so many CSGO players out there. Who knows, maybe things will change once the new source becomes available.
