Dynamo Kyiv vs Fenerbahce Match Analysis and Prediction

Dynamo Kyiv and Fenerbahce meet for the first leg of their second qualifying round tie on Wednesday, as they will be looking to secure a spot in the Champions League.

They teams will play their matches in Lods, as Dynamo have been displaced from the Ukrainian capital following the ongoing war, with the winner after next week’s return match going to face Austria’s Sturm Graz in the third round.

Dynamo’s ‘Stop the War, Play for Peace’ international tour has been going on for several months, as the Ukrainian capital’s main club travelled around Europe after the Ukrainian Premier League was cancelled mid-season.

The final stop on their trek around the continent took them to Brussels on Friday, when they were defeated 2-1 in their last warm-up encounter with Royal Antwerp, and they have since returned to their temporary home in Lodz.

Meanwhile, Fenerbahce finished second in Turkey’s top flight last season, collecting 73 points to sit eight behind champions Trabzonspor, and they now start a new campaign hoping to fare better under fresh management.

The Istanbul club have not actually won the Super Lig title since 2014, as Galatasaray, Besiktas and Istanbul Basaksehir have instead dominated in recent years.

With new manager Jorge Jesus at the helm, Fenerbahce have been in fine form during this summer’s pre-season preparations, winning each of their last five matches.

Beating Hull City 2-0 on Sunday waas the final opportunity to adjust for Jesus, who wasted no time in cutting loose unwanted playmaker Mesut Ozil shortly after his arrival, and second-half goals from Arda Guler and Serdar Dursun secured another morale-boosting win.

The Turkish league campaign is due to begin for Fenerbahce with a home match against Umraniyespor on August 6, but Jesus will, meanwhile, hope to secure a spot in the third round of the Champions League qualifying.

Dynamo Kyiv news

Dynamo have managed to keep most of their treble-winning squad together over the past few months, though Heorhiy Tsitaishvili and Gerson Rodrigues have moved away from the club.

Goalkeeper Heorhiy Bushchan, Illya Zabarnyi and Serhiy Sydorchuk are all set to feature on Wednesday, while Oleksandr Karavayev is also in contention.

Fenerbahce news

Fenerbahce have been busy in signings this summer, with Emre Mor and Lincoln arriving at the club, while Diego Rossi has made his deal permanent, while Bruma has signed on loan from PSV Eindhoven.

Min-Jae Kim starts in central defence, having made a smooth transition to European football last season.

Prediction and Odds

Dynamo’s preparation has been far from ideal, but many of their key figure were together with Ukraine over the summer, which could be a positive thing for the squad.

However, Jorge Jesus is formidable for a reason, and Fenerbahce are likely to take their opponents back to Istanbul with an advantage.
