Elijah Mitchell Designated for Return from IR

San Francisco 49ers running back Elijah Mitchell has been designated to return from injured reserve. He was placed on IR after Week 1, due to a sprained MCL. An IR stint is a mandatory four weeks, yet Mitchell will have spent eight weeks on the list.

PFF’s Ari Meirov reported the news via Twitter on Monday.

In 2021, the 49ers drafted Elijah Mitchell out of the University of Louisiana in the sixth round. He immediately became one of the best value picks in the entire draft after playing his first game in September of the same year.

Mitchell rushed the ball just six times for 41 yards and zero touchdowns this season before suffering his knee injury. In 2021, he played in 11 games, starting 10 of them. He set the 49ers rookie record for rushing yards that season, gaining 936 while also grabbing five touchdowns.
