Enigma Archives: Rain Code has been revealed by Spike Chunsoft and Tookyo Games, the same creative team behind the Danganronpa series. Enigma Archives: Rain Code has been described as a dark fantasy mystery game, and not much more has been really revealed after that fact. As of now there are no confirmed platforms, release date, or price. What is confirmed is that Kazutaka Kodaka is coming up with the story, Masafumi Takada is working on the music, and Rui Komatsuzaki is leading on the game design.
The Danganronpa video game franchise has been going for over a decade. The first title was Danganronpa; Trigger Happy Havoc which released in 2010 for PS Vita, PS4, PC, and most recently on Switch. A number of games spawned after that including Danganronpa 2: Goodbye Despair, Danganronpa Another Episode: Ultimate Despair Girls, and Danganronpa V3: Killing Harmony. Danganronpa: Decadence brings the mainline trilogy to Nintendo Switch.
The games are well worth playing for fans of anime visual novels and bizarre murder mysteries. In our Danganronpa V3: Killing Harmony review, which brought the series to a narrative conclusion, Miguel wrote:
“I’ve been excited for and anticipating Danganronpa V3 for a long time, and after playing it, I can say it was absolutely worth it. Danganronpa V3 is an impressive culmination of nearly 8 years of twists, turns, heart-breaks, and murders, and is an amazing entry in a consistently well-written and addictive franchise.”
Whether Enigma Archives: Rain Code will follow a similar sinister and deadly plot remains to be seen. Going by the trailer there does seem to some death theme with ghosts flying about, and at one point a room that seems to show recently deceased people. I would not be surprised if the lady character is Death, considering she is wielding a scythe and is dressed in all black. We shall just have to wait and see.
