Evil Geniuses Will Explore Their Bot Lane Options for the 2023 LCS Season

Evil Geniuses are expected to look for a new ADC for their LCS roster as Kyle “Danny” Sakamaki isn’t expected to play.

Danny has been one of the most hyped rookies in LCS in recent years. Both with his exciting pentakills and the early success he found with Evil Geniuses in 2022, Danny was regarded as one of the future faces of the North American League of Legends. Unfortunately for the young ADC and his fans, he stepped away from the team for mental health reasons. EG played with their academy ADC Muhammed Hasan “Kaori” Şentürk in the Lower Bracket Finals, Worlds 2022 Play-Ins and Groups.

As Kaori put up a good performance during his time with the main squad, many fans were wondering what his future would look like in LCS after Danny returned. But according to a new report from TGH’s Sander Hove, 2023 will not be the year Danny returns to competitive play. Hove said EG are looking at their options to replace their star ADC for 2023.

Of course, Kaori is the first name on the list. The Turkish ADC still has one more year on his contract with the organization and he already showed a lot of potential during both his time in Academy and his short stint with the main roster. Still, there are many big-name free agents on the market right now, so the spot is not guaranteed for Kaori.

The biggest move would be to sign one of the greats of the NA scene. Recently, Upcomer’s Brieuc “LEC Wooloo” Seeger tweeted that Yiliang “Doublelift” Peng is looking to make a comeback to pro play and that he is talking with multiple LCS teams. Doublelift was also linked with EG before the 2022 Spring Split started, in a roster that would also include Nicolaj “Jensen” Jensen. However, EG had then decided to move forward with a younger roster that included Danny and their star rookie, and LCS’s Rookie of the Year, Joseph Joon “jojopyun” Pyun.

Evil Geniuses can also consider going with a high-profile import. Currently, their only import player is Kacper “Inspired” Słoma, as Jeong “Impact” Eon-young counts as a resident. Many LEC ADCs are currently looking for new teams, either as free agents or with buyouts. Matúš “Neon” Jakubčík, Elias “Upset” Lipp and Carl Martin Erik “Rekkles” Larsson are three names they can consider. Although there are some rumors about most LCS teams cutting their budgets and reducing spending significantly for the upcoming season, so EG might decide not to spend big on LEC imports.
