Fnatic exit Dota 2 after 10 years of presence

Dota 2 Andreea “divushka” Esanu

Southeast Asia fans, and not only, lose one of the top organisations from the region as Fnatic closes the Dota 2 division citing uncertainties regarding their sustainability and future in the game.

Over the past decade of Dota, Fnatic has always been one of the SEA competitors. They made it to six editions of The International and have managed to place top 4 in 2016. However, while they’ve been dominating regionally for years, regardless of the roster, Fnatic fell flat on the biggest stages following their incredible run made at TI6. Their form deteriorated a little bit each year, until most recently, in the new Dota Pro Circuit, they haven’t been able to maintain their Division I slot in the SEA regional league.

This Winter Tour’s relegation seems to have been the nail in the coffin for the organisation, who pulled the plug on its Dota 2 division.

“Recently we have been forced to reflect on the sustainability and future of the title for Fnatic, and ultimately, to make a difficult but necessary decision to temporarily withdraw from the DOTA 2 pro circuit,” the organisation mentioned in their official statement.

While the announcement leaves room for a possible return to the Dota 2 world for Fnatic, for now, the entire roster is let go and all players are free to explore new options.

I will always be thankful for the opportunity and support given to me by Fnatic for the past 8 years. It’s my pride and joy to be part of one of the best esports organisations in the world. For me, Fnatic will always be an important part of my life and I wish them nothing but good luck in their future endeavours – Djardel “DJ” Mampusti
