Gen.G had a fairly easy road to the Knockouts – well, not necessarily because of their opponents, but because of the fact that they 3-0’d the competition in the Swiss Stage. First, they played against GAM Esports, defeating the VCS squad in a very short match, only lasting for 22:35. Afterwards, they played their rivals T1 who they beat in the LCK several times – last time in the Summer Finals. Even though Faker and co. held out longer, they still couldn’t make it to 30 minutes. Even though G2 Esports made it past that point in both their matches against Gen.G, they still lost 0-2 thanks to great drafts from Gen.G.

The 1^st Korean seed is a dangerous opponent, as they have 2 carries on their team. Even though Chovy deals the most damage on the squad, Peyz is not far behind, and his Xayah is extremely good – and when all else fails, Doran can step up as well.

Bilibili Gaming

Bilibili Gaming had some tougher games on their way to Knockouts. Even though they started out with a win, it took them 45 minutes and 2 Barons to defeat KT Rolster. They still couldn’t beat JD Gaming, and they failed to take down T1 the second time they met them this year, as Faker and his teammates 2-0’d them in Round 4.

Bin and co. needed the “help” of Western teams, Fnatic and G2 Esports. While BLG managed to beat the LEC’s 1^st and 2^nd seeds, both of them gave them a hard time, with G2 Esports almost ending their Worlds run. Nevertheless, BLG pulled through, making it to the top 8.

Even though Gen.G has been a much more dominant name, the numbers don’t really show that. Chovy and his teammates have the same First Tower% as Bilibili Gaming, while also having a worse First Blood%. However, they beat them in Plates/Game and CS differential at 15, showcasing a very strong early game.

As a true LCK team, Gen.G doesn’t fight a lot in the first half of games, but once the laning phase is over, they shift gears. Bilibili Gaming made some mistakes in the early stages of their matches, as all players outside of Bin had personal blunders. They also had a weaker midgame than T1, and Gen.G has an even stronger midgame. BLG will have a tough time against the Korean champions – could this be the end of their 2023 Worlds run?
