Just like the previous title, the Dead Island 2 multiplayer will have gamers facing hordes of the undead in LA together. Exactly how does multiplayer work though?

Multiplayer

Dead Island does feature cross-gen play but doesn’t include crossplay. This means that PS4 and PS5 players can play together and Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S players vice versa. Last-gen console users can only join the games of newer-gen users. For example, PS4 users can only join the game of a PS5 user. PS5 players can’t join the games of PS4 players.

Every multiplayer session in Dead Island 2 can have a team size of three people with six characters to select. Any player that is too far ahead in the story can’t host a game with someone who hasn’t progressed enough ahead. Mission progress and all items collected in a multiplayer game can be transferred to a single-player playthrough.

The Details

Plot-wise the story of Dead Island 2 happens ten years after the events of the first Dead Island. This also includes the events that happened in Dead Island Riptide. Players will be exploring the open world of a zombie-ridden California. Those who haven’t been infected dub themselves Slayers a group who are devoted to killing the undead in style. If gamers haven’t played the first Dead Island, there is no need as Dead Island 2 follows a different group of survivors with a new story.
