Back 4 Blood’s first expansion is here and, for the moderate price of $14.99 on Steam (or free if you got anything other than the standard edition), many are wondering if Tunnels of Terror is worth buying. While Back 4 Blood quickly fell off in active players despite selling well due to Left 4 Dead’s popularity, people are hoping Tunnels of Terror is worth coming back for.
Even if you have it through the Annual Pass or Deluxe editions of Back 4 Blood, people are still wondering if Tunnels of Terror is worth their time. Let us take a look.
What Does Back 4 Blood: Tunnels of Terror Include?
The Ridden Hives game mode gives the expansion its name, but does this game mode make Tunnels of Terror worth it? All-new PvE alone makes it seem like it is worth a nominal price of $14.99, but that is still a lot in this economy. Unfortunately, the Ridden Hives PvE content does not do much in terms of the story. You are basically just in terrifying underground caves with hordes of ridden that appear during the story mode.
Tunnels of Terror also brings:
- New warped ridden
- Eight exclusive skins
- Two new cleaners
New cleaners are interesting. Sharice is a firefighter with decent passives and Heng is a knife-wielding chef with a decent utility team effect. They bring decent skill into the Ridden Hives that work well with other players, but still: the lack of content is obvious, even if the official website make it sound like its more sizeable content than it is.
So, Is Back 4 Blood Tunnels of Terror Worth the Price?
As it stands, Tunnels of Terror is not worth it. At best, it is a DLC to pick up when it goes on sale. Fortunately, if someone in your group does have the DLC, then everyone in the group can access it. Adding tunnels under already existing maps seems like a cheap way to try to bring life to a fledgling game. It sounds interesting to play for the first couple of playthroughs, but this seems more like a free update than anything.
Verdict: Back 4 Blood: Tunnels of Terror is not worth the full price.
