MAD Lions vs Team Heretics Preview and Predictions: LEC Summer Split 2023

MAD Lions vs Team Heretics Preview and Predictions: LEC Summer Split 2023

MAD Lions vs Team Heretics on Saturday will decide which team will join Fnatic and G2 Esports in the Summer Group Stage.

Two weeks have passed since the beginning of the 2023 LEC Summer Split! Two teams have already qualified for the Summer Group Stage of the last season of the LEC, as Fnatic and G2 Esports have won enough matches to secure their spots. The rest of the teams are still in the run for Groups, with two of them – MAD Lions and Team Heretics – being only one victory away from proceeding to the next step – and they will face each other this Saturday!

MAD Lions vs Team Heretics Preview

MAD Lions

The Lions had an incredible start to the season. After winning the Spring Finals but getting eliminated almost immediately from the Mid-Season Invitational, the Spanish team had a lot to prove to both their fans and to themselves. They managed to do just that, winning all three of their matches last weekend, beating Vitality, G2 Esports and KOI.

They had a good showing on Saturday as well, defeating Astralis in their shortest match of the Summer Split so far, not giving too much space for the Danish squad. However, Fnatic flipped the script on them in their match on Sunday, ending their undefeated run. While that was not such an unimaginable outcome, Excel Esports also beat MAD Lions in an incredibly exciting match – and one that didn’t see Excel Esports in the lead until the Nexus of MAD blew up.

Team Heretics

Team Heretics had one of the most surprising performances in the first week of the Summer LEC. After failing to qualify for the Group Stage in Spring, they beat all their opponents in the opening matches, defeating SK Gaming, Astralis and Vitality.

Of course, it was too good to be true, because they lost against Excel Esports and KOI last Saturday and Sunday, as Vincent “Vetheo” Berrié and Shunsuke “Evi” Murase couldn’t play as well as they did last week. Luckily, Heretics didn’t get an 0-3 after a 3-0, as their players pulled themselves together before the match against Team BDS, with Vetheo leading the charge alongside Marcin “Jankos” Jankowski, followed by Victor “Flakked” Lirola. The team is not perfect, but they are a joy to watch after the fiascos of Winter and Spring.

MAD Lions vs Team Heretics Predictions

While Team Heretics are a lot stronger than they were in the last two splits of the LEC, they still have a lot to iron out – and they are aware of that. Only winning 1 match after they went flawless in the opening week is not a good sign. But it isn’t a good sign for MAD Lions either, who did just that as well.

Nevertheless, MAD Lions were the Spring Champions, and they have solid foundations with excellent game plans thanks to their coaching staff and players – while Heretics have improved, they should still have a hard time against the Lions.
