Marvel’s Midnight Suns Has Been Delayed Indefinitely

Marvel’s Midnight Suns has been officially delayed, as announced by the game’s publisher Take-Two Interactive (via IGN). The delay was also announced on the game’s official Twitter account. Though delays are to be expected these days, this delay’s circumstances are atypical.

The game was planned to release on October 7 of this year, meaning that prior to the delay’s announcement on August 8, the game was meant to come out in about two months. The future release date has not been specified, with Take-Two instead stating that the game will come out during this fiscal year, meaning sometime before March 2023.

Take-Two stated the purpose of the delay was “to ensure the teams at Firaxis Games and 2K deliver the best possible experience for our fans.” However, there’s another noteworthy tidbit about this delay. Only the current-gen console versions, meaning the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S versions, as well as the PC version, are planned to release before March 2023. The past-gen console versions, Xbox One, PS4, and the Nintendo Switch version, were also all planned to release in October, but these have all been delayed indefinitely.

Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick went into further detail with IGN, sharing that the goal of the delay is a “search for quality, and a great deal of confidence that we have a wonderful title on our hands and we want to make sure it’s as good as it can possibly be.” He stated he’s not concerned about the possibility of the game getting delayed past the 2022 fiscal year.

For those unaware, Marvel’s Midnight Suns is a turn-based tactical strategy RPG, being developed by the great minds at Firaxis Games, the studio behind beloved series such as XCOM and Civilization. This game seemingly melds an interesting combination of genres, matching card-based abilities in tactical strategy combat, and a dialogue-choosing story that lets you build relationships various with Marvel heroes.

Most recently, the game’s YouTube channel has been very active in uploading a series of character gameplay overviews. Many of these showcases went very deep into the characters’ functionality and showed off a lot of their abilities, so the delay comes as an even bigger surprise to many.
