Meet Your Maker: New Asymmetrical FPS Revealed By Dead By Daylight Devs

Behaviour Interactive, the studio team behind the ever-popular Dead By Daylight, just announced a new online multiplayer game called Meet Your Maker. Though it varies greatly from their prior hit title, it’s also an asymmetrical experience, this time pitting a mastermind stage builder against a team of raiders who will engage in first-person action combat in order to steal a piece of treasure. The treasure in question; is uncorrupted genetic material, as described in a PlayStation blog post.

As seen in the trailer below, the game features a sort of gory, infernal scrapyard aesthetic, this world won’t be a cheerful one. Lead Content Strategist, Justin Fragapane, describes the game’s post-apocalyptic setting, stating that humanity nearly faced extinction due to a genetic disease, and this genetic material is the only thing that can bring about a cure. Though their concept explanations aren’t too clear, they state that players will have opportunities to learn about the lore in-game, such as via a hub world in between matches, where you can talk to ‘clones’ called Advisors.

The builders will be able to design the structure of the Outposts the raiders attack, this is showcased in the trailer via the sequence of different buildings, all with diverse architecture. They’ll be able to spawn enemies and place obstacles in a block-like format, these selectable from a “highly customizable toolbox of traps and guards.” But besides just obstructing, Fragapane states the builders must “lure, outwit, and tear trespassing players limb from limb.”

The raiders will engage in fast-paced first-person shooting and manoeuvring, this much better served by the action seen in the trailer. They’ll need to stay on their toes to do so, as they are meant to not only steal the canister of genetic material but escape with it alive. The game will feature a progression system wherein by supplying genetic material you can earn new traps, guards, suits, weapons, and perks.

As posted on Twitter, a select few players will be able to get their hands on the title remarkably fast. A closed playtest begins on August 23, 2022, which you can sign up for here to try to get invited, however, the playtest will only be available for PC players, specifically Steam users. The playtest is planned to run for “several weeks”; no exact end date has been decided.

Meet Your Maker releases sometime in 2023 for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
