Starting quarterback Casey Thompson will miss the game due to an injury to his throwing arm. He also missed the Cornhuskers’ last game; the injury took place in the team’s October 29 game against Illinois, and it keeps him from being able to grip the ball effectively. Michigan’s defense is third in the nation in points permitted per game, at 12.1, and Chubba Purdy, who started in Thompson’s place last week against Minnesota, only went 6 of 16 for 41 yards and a pick. Logan Smothers also saw action, going 5 of 10 for 80 yards. Whoever starts this week will have tough sledding. The Sooners have taken a lot of lumps this year, and West Virginia is a tough place to go win. However, the Mountaineers’ secondary is porous in general, and now they are having to play several backups due to injury. Sooners quarterback Dillon Gabriel is second in the Big 12 in TD passes (16) and should find room down the field. Sooners to win.

 

#20 Notre Dame Fighting Irish at Navy Midshipmen

Which Fighting Irish team will show up on Saturday? Remember, this is a team that lost to Marshall at home, but they also knocked off some of the ACC’s royalty – North Carolina, Syracuse and, most recently, Clemson. Navy has that triple-option offense that it would like to grind down opponents with, but their defense has not been impressive. Strange things happen in Annapolis, but the Irish should be able to take care of business on the road. Fighting Irish to win.

 

#7 LSU Tigers at Arkansas Razorbacks

The trap game potential here is immense. LSU just knocked off Alabama in overtime and is in the driver’s seat in the SEC West. Arkansas just lost to Liberty…at home. With quarterback K.J. Jefferson and tailback Raheim Sanders, the Razorbacks have a running attack that is difficult to stop. The Arkansas secondary does give up a lot, though, and the LSU offense has the talent to attack it. I’m probably putting more faith in Brian Kelly than I should, but I like the Tigers to win.

 

Missouri Tigers at #5 Tennessee Volunteers

Remember, this is the same Missouri team that almost beat Georgia at home. That’s the same Georgia team that beat Tennessee last week. The Volunteers should have plenty of motivation now that they have fallen out of the top four in the College Football Playoff standings, and now that they have to hope for Georgia to stumble before the SEC Championship. I expect the Tennessee offense to produce at full force. Volunteers to win.

 

Indiana Hoosiers at #2 Ohio State Buckeyes

Ohio State’s offense was not impressive against a Northwestern team that hasn’t been stopping anyone. Could that have been the weather? Maybe. Could the injury bug finally be impacting the Buckeyes? Maybe. We’ll see when the Hoosiers come to town, although Indiana should not provide that rigorous a test. Buckeyes to cover.

 

Colorado Buffaloes at #8 USC Trojans

Jordan Addison should return, letting the Trojans run that high-octane offense. However, the defensive problems that plagued Lincoln Riley at Oklahoma have followed him to USC; in Pac-12 play, the defense has given up way too much, including the fatal points in that loss to Utah. Colorado is dreadful, but this game is likely to be closer than it should. USC to win.
