NFL Draft Prospects in the LA Bowl

NFL Draft Prospects in the LA Bowl

The bowl season gives fans and scouts alike a chance to analyze NFL Draft prospects against solid competition. Bowl scheduling allows all eyes to be on each game. Here are the NFL Draft prospects in the 2023 LA Bowl.

UCLA Bruins Draft Prospects

Laiatu Latu, EDGE

Latu started his college career at Washington. He had some injury issues and could no longer play at Washington. After getting cleared to play, he transferred to UCLA where he has been productive for the last two seasons. In his career, he has 100 total tackles, 35.5 tackles for loss and 24 sacks. This season, he tallied 49 tackles, 21.5 tackles for loss and 13 sacks.

At 6-foot-5 and 265 pounds, Latu has great size for an NFL edge rusher. He has great production that warrants him being selected early, but his medical history will need to be checked out before teams can select him. Latu is currently projected to be a first-round pick.

Projected Draft Range: First Round Pick

J. Michael Sturdivant, WR

Sturdivant started his career at Cal. He redshirted his first year at Cal before playing in 2022. Sturdivant then transferred to UCLA before the 2023 season. In his college career, he has 97 catches for 1,210 yards and 10 touchdowns. This season, Sturdivant has 32 catches for 455 yards and three touchdowns.

He has the size to be an outside receiver at the NFL level at 6-foot-3 and 205 pounds. Sturdivant has proven to be a red zone threat. He still is a redshirt sophomore, so he could return to school to build his stock up more. Currently, he is a projected mid to late round pick.

Projected Draft Range: Fourth Round Pick-Sixth Round Pick

Other Draft Prospects: EDGE Gabriel Murphy (4th-6th), IOL Duke Clemons (6th-UFA), EDGE Grayson Murphy (6th-UFA), RB Carson Steele (6th-UFA), CB Jaylin Davies (UFA), DL Jay Toia (UFA), CB Devin Kirkwood (UFA), QB Collin Schlee (UFA), LB Darius Muasau (UFA), EDGE Jake Heimlicher (UFA)

Boise State Broncos Draft Prospects

George Holani, RB

Holani has had a long and productive career at Boise State. He joined in 2019 and has two 1,000-yard rushing seasons in his career. Holani was not the lead back this season for the Broncos, but he has played well. In his career, he has 3,458 rushing yards, 732 receiving yards and 32 total touchdowns. This season, he has 610 rushing yards, 154 receiving yards and five touchdowns.

He has solid size at 5-foot-10 and 210 pounds. Over the course of his career, he has dealt with a lot of wear and tear from so many carries. His receiving stats also help his case to make an NFL roster, but he may have to play special teams at the start.

Projected Draft Range: 6th Round Pick-Undrafted Free Agent

Stefan Cobbs, WR

Cobbs redshirted at Boise State way back in 2018. After playing just a little bit in 2019 and 2020, he stepped into a more productive role in his last three seasons. In his time at the school, he has 93 receptions for 1,187 yards and nine touchdowns. This season, Cobbs has 23 catches for 241 yards and one touchdown.

He may need to add some weight to his frame, as he is 6-foot and 190 pounds. Cobbs hasn’t had a season with over 500 receiving yards, so it will be hard for him to get drafted without elite production. Like so many in this article, he will need to play special teams to get his foot in the door.

Projected Draft Range: Undrafted Free Agent

Other Draft Prospects: K Jonah Dalmas (UFA)
