Scump On Being A Team Oakley Athlete, His 2022 Roster And COD: Vanguard

Recently, we spoke to Scump on becoming a Team Oakley Athlete, his 2022 roster and COD: Vanguard.

Known as one of the best Call of Duty players of all time, Seth “Scump” Abner is a staple of the Call of Duty scene. Heading into 2022, Scump is rumored to be teaming with a brand new roster of himself, Brandon “Dashy” Otell, Anthony “Shotzzy” Cuevas-Castro and Indervir “iLLeY” Dhaliwal. He also recently became a Team Oakley Athlete, so we spoke to him about all this and much more.

What are your thoughts on Oakley’s new gaming frames, and how does it feel to be a Team Oakley Athlete?

The frames are truly a game-changer. Oakley’s Prizm Gaming Lens Technology is engineered to enhance my vision and features blue-light filtering technology to protect my eyes. These two features allow me to see more detail on the screen that I wouldn’t have noticed without the glasses, while the blue-light filtering technology allows me to look at the screen for much longer than I could without getting screen fatigue. These two elements alone simply prove the advantage of wearing the NXTLVL Prizm Gaming frames while I game.

As a professional esports gamer, I’m thrilled to be a part of Team Oakley and be their first gaming athlete. Being alongside all of these amazing athletes like Patrick Mahomes and Lamar Jackson feels like such a privilege.

Looking ahead towards CDL 2022

What do you think you can take from the 2021 CDL season, and improve on in 2022?

For any athlete, even the best in the world, there’s always room to improve. I’m constantly learning and looking at ways to better my game. This year I’ll be focusing on putting my time fully into the game the whole year. I really want to win and to win you and your teammates have to be giving their undivided attention to the game 24/7. If you aren’t, someone else will, and they will win.

Are you looking forward to the release of Vanguard, and what are your thoughts on the game so far?

Very much so! I love the game. I’ve mentioned this before, but I had such a good time with this Beta. It’s so fast-paced, there’s always something going on. It was a lot of fun because of the momentum of the game mode – it’s non-stop action! Also, they are bringing back some nostalgic maps like Castle and Dome. I’m also very excited because the game has 16 6v6 maps on release. Usually CoD has like 8-10 so that is already a huge improvement. The movement feels really smooth and the gunplay feels great in the BETA so I think we are in for a good year!

You’ll be heading into 2022 with a new roster once again, are you looking forward to this new opportunity?

Yes! Although I’ve been playing for many years, I feel like I’m just getting started in the gaming world. Having a new roster is always exciting. This will be the first year that I have a roster without one of the dynasty teammates alongside me. It will be weird, but I am very confident in the young talent and hunger on the team. I’m hoping to prove some people wrong this year, and get some wins on the board.

Taking a breather

During the off-season, what have you done to relax and take your mind off of competitive COD?

Like most people, I enjoy the simple things in life like hanging out with my friends and family.

Going out for good meals, watching new TV shows and movies. That kind of stuff typically gives my mind a break. Other than that, my girlfriend and I recently went to a music festival and that  was very fun! I usually don’t take very many breaks because esports don’t sleep! It was nice to have a small break before the game is dropping though. Reenergized and ready to GO!

With Call of Duty: Vanguard releasing just three days ago, Scump’s stream has been in full force as he competes in kickoff tournaments. If you want to see one of the best players in the world compete, Scump’s Twitch Channel is the place to be.
