In this article, therefore, we have decided to enclose in one place all the Starfield tech skills that you can assign to your character during your adventure.


Starfield skills: All tech skills explained

First of all, the most important thing to know is that Starfield offers 82 different skills to choose from and they are divided into five different categories: tech, combat, physical, science, and social. Furthermore, each category has four different tiers in which there are specific skills, which are in turn divided into four ranks. For ease of reading, we have decided to create a separate article for each skill group.

Tier 1 skills

The Starfield tech skills that are part of this Tier are very useful in the early stages of the game. They give you the possibility to have advantages in the use of ballistic weapons, you will be able to hack the security systems, to pilot increasingly larger and higher grade ships, to be able to target them in such a way as to make the clashes easier, and you will be able to make use of the booster packs which will surely be a very welcome addition and prove to be useful.

Ballistic Weapon Systems

  • Rank 1: Targeting Mode reduces the cost of using ballistic ship weaponry by 20% and increases their damage by 10%.
  • Rank 2: Ballistic ship weapons deal 20% more damage and recharge 15% more quickly.
  • Rank 3: Ballistic ship weaponry have a 30% damage increase and a 30% faster recharge rate.
  • Rank 4: Systems are 50% more severely damaged by ballistic ship weapons.

Boost Pack Training

  • Rank 1: You are now able to use booster packs.
  • Rank 2: Fuel usage when using a boost pack is reduced.
  • Rank 3: Fuel for the boost pack regenerates more quickly.
  • Rank 4: Increases prior bonuses by two.

Piloting

  • Rank 1: You are now able to use the ship’s thrusters.
  • Rank 2: Improved maneuverability and turning rate of the ship.
  • Rank 3: Acquire the capacity to command Class B vessels.
  • Rank 4: Acquire the capacity to command Class C vessels.

Security

  • Rank 1: You can try to break advanced locks, and you can bank two automatic tries.
  • Rank 2: You can try to pick locks that are Expert, and you can bank 3 automatic tries. The pick can now be slotted when the rings turn blue.
  • Rank 3: Master-level locks can be attempted to be broken, and 4 automatic tries can be banked.
  • Rank 4: Use a digipick to remove any keys that aren’t necessary to finish the puzzle. You can bank up to five auto attempts.

Targeting Control Systems

  • Rank 1: Unlocks the ability to target ships.
  • Rank 2: Locking onto hostile ships takes 15% less time. Ships locked on a target fire at you 25% more slowly.
  • Rank 3: Locking onto hostile ships takes 30% less time. The likelihood of critically striking a target-locked ship is 10% higher.
  • Rank 4: 60% less time is needed to lock onto an enemy ship. In Targeting Mode, deal 20% more damage.

Tier 2 skills

The Starfield tech skills present in Tier 2 add functionality to those we have seen previously. As you progress with the game, it will become more and more difficult and you will unlock more and more things, this means that having the possibility of being able to manage energy weapons and having benefits to the statistics of your ship (increased speed, greater capacity load capacity, shorter cooldown times, increased shield effectiveness, and much more), are additions that will help you complete missions.

Energy Weapon Systems

  • Rank 1: In Targeting Mode, the damage of Energy Ship weapons increases by 10% while their usage costs decrease by 15%.

Engine Systems

  • Rank 1: A 10% increase in your ship’s top speed is granted.
  • Rank 2: Ship enhancements stay longer and have a shorter cooldown.
  • Rank 3: 20% more speed is added to your ship’s top speed.
  • Rank 4: When the player is boosting, all adversaries disengage from them and can only reacquire them as a target when the player stops boosting.

  • Rank 1: Cargo holds on ships have 10% greater space.
  • Rank 2: 20% additional cargo space is available in ship holds.
  • Rank 3: Cargo holds on ships can hold 30% more.

  • Rank 1: Your ship’s shield capacity is 20% higher.
  • Rank 2: The shield capacity of your ship has grown by 40%.
  • Rank 3: Your ship’s capacity for shields has improved by 60%.
  • Rank 4: Occasionally, your shields will withstand 100% of all incoming damage.

Tier 3 skills

  • Rank 2: Turrets and robots take 20% greater damage from you. A target robot that is up to 10 levels superior than you can be made to flee temporarily.
  • Rank 3: Turrets and robots take 30% greater damage from you. For a brief period of time, you can make a target robot that is up to 10 levels superior to you start attacking their comrades.

Tier 4 skills

This is the last Tier available for Starfield tech skills, this means that those in this group are the most powerful and that you will use in the advanced stages of the game. Specifically, your ship’s automatic and EM weapons will deal more damage and when your ship is in boost mode you will have the ability to deal more damage to enemies.

Automated Weapon Systems

  • Rank 1: Automated ship weapons deal 10% more damage and cost 20% less to use Targeting Mode.
  • Rank 2: Automated ship weapons have a 20% increase in damage and a 30% decrease in all Targeting Mode expenses. While in Targeting Mode, your spacecraft receives 20% less damage.
  • Rank 3: Automated ship weapons have a 30% increase in damage and a 40% cost reduction for all Targeting Modes. 20% more crit chance is added for the chosen sub-systems.
  • Rank 4: Targeted subsystem damage is increased by 20% and ship turret guns recharge 40% faster.

Boost Assault Training

  • Rank 1: When you boost, nearby foes incur damage and may catch fire.
  • Rank 2: A chance that your boost will take out nearby adversaries.
  • Rank 3: You can hover in situ by aiming down sights while boosting. Up until it runs out, fuel is continually used.
  • Rank 4: When hovering, time slows down and everything around you travels 70% more slowly.
