The Best Family-Friendly Multiplayer Games to Play at Thanksgiving 2021

It’s almost Thanksgiving, which means plates filled with yummy food, spending time with the family and, hopefully, all having fun together.

For many of us, the holiday season is the most joyous time of year. We get to see our friends and family, spend quality time together, and do the things that make us happy. For us? That means playing video games – and making our family play with us too. Finding suitable games for the family isn’t always easy, though.

We’ve rounded up a handful of the best multiplayer games you can play this Thanksgiving. Everything we’ve selected is suitable for the whole family. And all can be played by multiple people at once, so everyone can get involved. So: grab your games console of choice, round up a few extra controllers, and get everyone comfortable. These are the best family multiplayer games to play this holiday season. Competitiveness optional.

Moving Out

Available on: PS4, Xbox One, PC, Switch (Xbox Series X/S and PS5 via backwards compatibility)

Hopefully moving out is not something anyone will be doing over Thanksgiving. But gamifying the act of moving a house full of stuff is surprisingly enjoyable. In Moving Out, you and your friends and family become workers for a removals company. Perhaps not a removals company you’d actually want to hire yourself though; without a doubt, furniture is going to get thrown out of a window, valuables are going to get dropped, and all kinds of other chaos will ensue.

But that’s the joy of Moving Out. Up to four players can work together, co-ordinating on lifting heavy objects, shouting PIVOT! at each other as you manoeuvre around tight corners. You may well fail, but that’s all part of the fun. Moving Out is more about the madness of trying to succeed, even if the end result isn’t as quite as good as you’d hoped. Finish a level with one star instead of three? No worries, just try again.

Just Dance 2022

Just Dance 2022

Available on: PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, Switch, PC, Stadia

Now, we’d maybe recommend playing this before you sit down to stuff your face with turkey and trimmings. All that jumping around that Just Dance 2022 encourages is probably not the best idea on a full stomach. But for families who enjoy getting up and getting active, Just Dance 2022 is undoubtedly one of the best multiplayer games you can play this Thanksgiving.

As the name suggests, it’s a game all about, well, dancing. And to play, all each player needs is their own mobile phone. By downloading the Just Dance app, it’ll connect to the game, and register your movements. Pretty nifty, eh? Dance along with the song, following the on-screen actions, and whoever pulls the best shapes will score the most points. There’s a pretty wild selection of songs to choose from – mostly newer chart stuff, but some older songs that more members of the family will recognise, too. You’re bound to find something fun to jive to, that’s a given.

Olympic Games Tokyo 2020 – The Official Video Game

Olympic Games Tokyo 2020 - The Official Video Game

Available on: PS4, Xbox One, Switch, PC (PS5 and Xbox Series X/S via backwards compatibility)

Summer, and therefore the Olympics, might feel like millions of years ago by now. But you can recreate the fun of the Olympic games once more, from the comfort of your own home. Better yet, you can dress up as Sonic the Hedgehog while doing so. Olympic Games Tokyo 2020 – The Official Video Game packs in a huge collection of minigames, all based on the official Olympic Games. So, you can take part in a 100 metre sprint against your family, or perhaps a cycling race around the arena is more your thing? There’s also volleyball, hurdles, swimming and much more.

Each game has its own mechanics, most of which are very easy to pick up. It’s therefore a great game to get the whole family involved, as there’s nothing too complicated to learn. And donning the in-game Sonic outfit while you complete in the events just adds to the fun. This is one of the best family-friendly multiplayer games you can play this Thanksgiving, without a doubt.

The Addams Family: Mansion Mayhem

The Addams Family: Mansion Mayhem

Available on: PS4, Xbox One, Switch, PC (PS5 and Xbox Series X/S via backwards compatibility)

For families who enjoy some good, old-fashioned platforming fun, The Addams Family: Mansion Mayhem may well be worth checking out. It’s based on the recent animated reboot of The Addams Family, and allows up to four players to play together (or compete) in a range of platforming levels and challenges. Be Wednesday, Gomez, Morticia or Pugsley as you run around the family home, collecting coins, fighting off ghouls and jumping over obstacles.

In between straight-up platform levels you’ll find a sprinkling of minigames, too. Each one is slightly different, challenging you to collect more coins than your fellow players, or to survive a log flume ride. If you’d rather, you can ignore the main game completely and jump into the minigames straight from the menu. There’s nothing like a bit of competitive fun over Thanksgiving, right?
