How do you fancy uniting five heavily armed gangs who, if not openly at war, probably hate each other? No. Tough, because in Elex II nobody else is going to do it.
This sci-fi action-RPG isn’t arriving till next March but developers Piranha Bytes have revealed the game’s five factions. Your character, Jax, “embarks on a mission to convince the factions to unite against the invaders” who are set on bringing the world to its knees, and then cutting those knees off.
It’s not clear whether you can get away with enlisting the help of just a couple but we suspect that, at the very least, you’ll have to get them all on side to get the best ending. You’ll be dealing with the following factions:

- The Berserkers. Despite their name, this group is heavily into magic, and have set themselves up in a desert oasis.
- The Albs. They’re Elex II’s buttoned-up military force who’ve all but stripped themselves of emotions, though they’re starting to see the value of feelings.
- The Outlaws. This faction was booted out of their stronghold by the Berserkers and are now roaming around, being extremely grumpy to anyone and everyone.
- The Clerics. Known for their love of machinery and their willingness to aid others, the Clerics sound not unlike Fallout 3’s Brotherhood of Steel splinter group.
- The Morkons. This faction live underground and their name is a clear reference to the Morlocks, from H.G. Well’s novel The Time Machine. They’re also determined to spread their religion to the rest of the world and seem to be the most fanatical of all the factions.
Given the choice, we’d probably get the first four factions on board and tell the Morkons to sling their hook, but will Elex II allow us to get away with that? We’ll have to wait till March 1st 2022 to find out, which is when it lands on PC, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series S|X and Xbox One. In the meantime, you can wishlist Elex II on Steam and check out our review of the original Elex.
