The Calisto Project Director Shares New Gameplay Footage

Striking Distance Studios CEO Glen Schofield has shared additional in-game footage of the studio’s upcoming sci-fi horror The Calisto Project.

In an interview with Game Informer, Schofield elaborated on the creation of The Calisto Project and shared some new in-game footage, viewable below.

Schofield spoke about how he went to the desert to draw in order to find inspiration for an upcoming project. He eventually arrived on a game set within a prison on Jupiter’s second moon, Calisto.

Schofield also spoke about his own personal storytelling process. When he worked on Dead Space, he knew exactly how it wanted to end. The Calisto Project was more of an evolutionary process he worked with the writers on.

The gameplay footage shows some of the third-person shooter mechanics as the protagonist shotguns their way through several creatures. At one stage the player character is ambushed by a creature, showcasing some of the potential horror scenarios that may occur during The Calisto Project.

The Dead Space inspiration is clear with The Calisto Project. In an interview with Eurogamer, Schofield spoke about how his title has evolved beyond its spiritual predecessor, referencing how the gore technology is “so advanced compared to Dead Space.”

Striking Distance Studios are hopeful that The Calisto Project may spawn a franchise following its release. The studio’s chief creative officer Chris Stone has stated that Striking Distance has “no shortage of ideas” for sequels. However, the studio is currently completely focused on finishing The Calisto Project and “making it the best game it can be” (via PCGamesN).

The Calisto Project will be released on December 2 for PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S.
