The PS Plus Free Games for January 2022 have leaked! What are they and when do they come out?

It’s coming toward the end of the month, and I’m sure many of you are eagerly looking forward to the PS Plus Free Games for January 2022, especially those of you who found a shiny PS5 under the Christmas tree. What are the latest leaks? When will the announcement come? Let’s break it down.

When will PS Plus January 2022, games be announced and released?

Traditionally PlayStation Plus games have always been announced on the last Wednesday of ever month at 4.30 PM UK time with the games going live the following Tuesday morning. That means the reveal should be on December 29th . That said, Sony occasionally decide to change things up and announce them earlier or later and that happened last month when they skipped the usual date and just picked a random date and time. As it’s Christmas week it’s more than likely that Sony will also miss the usual time and date.

What will the PS Plus January 2022 games be?

The three games that were included in PS Plus December 2021 were leaked by the regular source Billbil-kun on French deals website Dealabs and they’re back again with a leak for January 2022.

The rumours will please fans of racing games and co-op shooters with the following games all playable across both PS5 and PS4. They are:

  • Deep Rock Galactic (PS5 | PS4)
  • DIRT 5 (PS5 | PS4)
  • Persona 5 Strikers (PS4)

(Persona 5 Strikers playable on PS5via backward compatibility)

Deep Rock Galactic was originally released in mid-2020 for Xbox One and PC, having had a good stay in Xbox Game Preview and Steam Early Access. We were thoroughly impressed with the game, saying in our review:

“Ooh, aah, that’s how it always starts, then later there’s running and screaming. Deep Rock Galactic can be deceptively easy going at times, right up until the swarms of bugs come crawling out of the inky darkness to besiege you and your friends. Who knew space dwarf mining could be so fun?”

DIRT 5, meanwhile, launched alongside the new generation of consoles, a more arcade take on the series again to go alongside the more sim-racing spills of DIRT Rally 2.0. In our review, Tom said:

“DIRT 5 strips away the more serious elements of the franchise and puts all its eggs in one, arcade cabinet shaped, basket. At times a riot, in other areas a little repetitive and lacking in finesse, it nevertheless delivers on the concept of an adrenaline-fueled off-road racer. It’s a game that makes you sit forward in your seat and savour the joys of jumping a Dakar Rally Peugeot 3008 over a ravine.”

Last, but by no means least, Persona 5 Strikers continues the story of the sublime Persona 5, but takes on a new form as a musou brawler. Nic had lovely things to say about it when it released earlier this year.

“Persona 5 Strikers is an excellent welcome back party for the franchise. It takes a formula that is proven to work and takes it to a new place by adding a whole new combat system that allows you to play as the whole team, rather than the main character we’re all used to. This said, and although Persona 5 Strikers is excellent in its own right, there’s enough that’s been stripped back to make this game work that it can’t reach the lofty heights of the original.”

Can I still download the December 2021 PlayStation Plus Games?

Yes you can. The PlayStation Plus games for November are Mortal Shell and LEGO DC Super-Villains for PlayStation 4, and Godfall Challenger Edition on both PS4 and with a PS5 version, plus three bonus PSVR games which will remain on the service until 3rd January.
