Uncharted 4 multiplayer may have been axed for PS5 and PC

It looks as though the online multiplayer for Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End may not be making its way to the upcoming PS5 and PC re-release.

Earlier this year it was announced that both Uncharted 4 and its standalone DLC, Lost Legacy, are being remastered as one big package. Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection has now been rated by the ESRB with no mention of multiplayer, fans will be dismayed to hear.

When the ESRB rates games, it will highlight online features. For example, for Halo Infinite it specifically mentions user interactions and in-game purchases in its summary.

While the listing for Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection may be erroneous or missing information, it has led to speculation that the PS5 and PC version of the PlayStation hit will axe the co-op and competitive modes.

A release date for the collection has yet to be announced though it will likely land in time for Sony’s upcoming Uncharted movie starring Tom Holland as Nathan Drake. It’s due to finally hit cinemas on February 18, 2022.

Quite how far both games are being enhanced for new platforms isn’t quite clear yet. The games ran at 1080p on base PlayStation 4, and with a native 1440p on PlayStation 4 Pro, both locked to 30fps. The PlayStation 5 could conceivably bump up the resolution to native 4K and frame rates to 60fps, but other parts of the game’s graphical presentation could also be enhanced.

We continued to play Uncharted 4’s competitive online modes and co-op survival missions long after the game originally launched. Although technically still playable on PS5 thanks to backwards compatibility, it’s a shame this wedge of the Uncharted experience has been left behind. That said, these are easily two of the best games you could pick up for the PlayStation 4. We gave Uncharted 4 a stellar 10/10:

“Uncharted 4 is more than masterful, bearing the hallmarks of a true system seller. What struck me most as an ardent fans of the series is how much it breaks away from the original blueprint yet manages to amaze on every level. Where many studios step safely from one sequel and into the next, Naughty Dog has taken a gigantic leap, proving yet again they’re the best in the business.”
